Can I feed my new Beardie Comet Superworms instead of Crickets?
My parents aren't really into the idea of crickets possibly escaping, so asked if I could instead purchase Superworms.
I know Beardies can eat them, but are they ok for the bulk of the diet?
Comet is still young, about 8 1/2'' - 9''
Hi. He's still a little small for superworms. Also superworms are OK as a treat once in awhile. How about Phoenix worms or silk worms? Those are way healthier.
Tooooooo young for super worms ;( they have teeth. If you talk to a reputable shop owner and tell him your dragons young they will tell u they can chew the belly of yr little one.
Dubia roach babies! They are awesome feeders and cannot escape from plastic bins, more nutritious, less shell casing than crickets and higher in protein.
Too many worms can make yr dragon lazy, and fat lol.
Through the belly? Geez, my herp vet just told me that they bite there insides if their heads aren't crushed. My guys only 3 n a bit months old, but ya know hon, your vet could probably help you decide on a balance of bugs for your beardie, and if yr lucky like me, somewhere that's not AS pricey as some lol.
Ok, thank you all so much!
I really appreciate it!
I've been thinking about the roaches, but my mom has a pretty big phobia of them so I'd have to keep them hidden or something
The whole thing abut them eating through the stomach is just a myth, but your dragon is still too young. 16"+ is the minimum really for feeding supers. Here is a great list with some alternatives: http://www.beautifuldragons.com/Nutrition.html
