i keep getting conflicting information one of which I know is completly wrong (pet shop told me to only use multivitamin because it does have calcium in it)
I know i need both a multi and the calcium, I have used repcal calcium without D3 in the past and the one with it, but I was wondering whats the best???
my vet had told me to not use any D3 because they get enough from the uvb and that he can od on it... What do you use? how much and when?
I've heard the same too in the many months I was online researching before I got Reptar.
I use Rep-Cal calcium WITH d3 for my calcium days..the Rep-Cal vitamin for the other 2 days. He has a Reptisun 10.0 and a 100w basking bulb..and he's grown like a weed. Never had any problems with using d3 and using his uvb tube
I got him when he was only 6 3/4 inches, and now he is 14 1/2 in at 3 1/2 months old. So I think the calcium is helping quite a bit
Hope that helps.!
perfect.... thanks soooo much, yeah ima go ahead and use the rep-cal with d3 and get their vitamin even though the pet shop guy sold my husband some other random brand.... I also have a reptisun 10.0 but i use a 65w floodlight for basking and a regular energy saver for the cool side cause where i live the temps r pretty hot....
You are most welcome.! I know what it's like to be getting everything straight..so much bad information out there
And that sounds great. Just make sure you moniter temps well. What is your cool side temp.? You might not even need a bulb for that area. Room temp is fine.
I know and everyone sounds sooo certain they are right too..... but I use a acurite digital indoor/outdoor thermometer (learned about this on this sight) ... and his cool side stays anywhere from 80 to 85* depends on how hot of a day it is i just use the energy saver bulb for visual light it doesnt put out any heat... his tank would be super gloomy without it, I have a 120 gallon tank...
You definitely want the calcium w/D3 for beardies, even if you have a good UVB bulb. The only exception would be if the beardie was housed outdoors and recieving UVB from natural sunlight, in that situation you would not need to supplement with D3 in the calcium. While D3 overdoses are possible, its pretty rare. The different brands of calcium/D3 supplements contain varying levels of D3. Some contain as much as 3 times the amount of other brands, but all the ones produced by the well-known suppliers have D3 levels that meet the suggested amount that beardies need in order for it to be effective so you don't need to be too concerned about a supplement not containing sufficient amounts of D3, its much more likely for them to contain quite a bit more D3 than beardies are thought to need. So if you really are worried about the possibility of overdose, then I would suggest using one of the supplements containing the lower amounts of D3.

Just wanted to add, that with feeding Calcium +d3, you don't need to worry about D3 overdose at all, seeing as your dragon would start showing ill effects from too much CALCIUM long before the minuscule amount of D3 in the product would ever cause a problem.
Just to add, since it hasn't yet, Mercury Vapor Bulbs (MVB) are the only form of UVB lighting that you do not need Calcium w/ D3. Everything else from Arcadia 12% to Reptisun 10.0 you'll, as stated above, want Calcium w/ D3.
