My 7yo female, Pheeny, has always had a small bump/disfiguration on her long back toe. I figured it was from an injury as a baby. But I just noticed today that the bump has suddenly gotten bigger, it looks swollen and has a pronounced spot (scale?) on top. It's a holiday today but I plan to call the vet tomorrow. Just wondered if anyone had any ideas. I don't use crickets so it can't be a bite from an insect. Thanks!
(Sorry for the hair in the picture, I didn't see it until I loaded them).
Hi there...how is Pheeney's toe doing ? If you got her to a vet, what did the vet do for it ? If there has always been a knob there, she must have irritated it somehow. Hopefully [ and probably ] it won't be much of a problem.
How long has the toe been swollen like that?
Could she have injured the toe?
What type & brand of UVB are you using & how often do you use calcium?
Does she have any other areas which have some swelling?
It could be an injury of some sort or possibly even gout. I think it would be a good idea to get an x-ray on the toe to see if it is broken.
I have a vet appt today at 11:30 so I will report back.
This joint has been off-kilter and *slightly* larger since I got her around 4 mo old. I assumed she injured it as a baby. But I just noticed this large swelling recently, probably in the last week or two. I don't think she could have injured it as she isn't terribly active but it's possible.
I use Repti-sun 10.0 24" and replace every six months. I also take her outside for about 10-15 minutes in direct sunlight a few times a week during the warm months. I use calcium during most every feeding and vitamins once a week or so.
The vet did a blood test to check for gout and everything came back normal. He said it was probably an injury and that it looked like a small ulcer on the bump. He gave me Baytril for 10 days and said to let him know if it didn't improve.
