Bumblebee...roll out!

He’s here! The snow cleared and we were able to make it today. I was wondering why Tom didn’t work today.

He’s settling in right now and we tried to sex him he is still kinda young which I thought he’d be bigger (note I never met Bee or his parents). Breeder said he is the second smallest next to Donatello (the runt he’s keeping). So he had two runts Im fine with that. I had Kane out and he stopped by the 20 gall he tilted his head and black bearded at Bee (who’s in his tank btw) he quickly calmed down and just waved at him. They do not have adenovirus he said they didn’t (parents) Bumblebee and Donatello are both runts he assured us that he’ll grow out fine.

Here he is:

He didn’t get lunch because my doctor appointment ran longer that I thought it would. She was so busy she couldn’t help it. I had to see her because I was concerned about something, turns out my body is now changing and I am premenopausal geez Im not 40 yet but Im close so it was bound to happen. I thought Tom came home to feed him but guess not. I did salad with chicken baby food, hey extra protein won’t hurt he needs it anyway with how young he is.

Im not gonna fight the breeder but you’d think he’d know not to do that. All his hatchlings are literal hatchlings with umbilical cord marks. I assume they all do because Bee does. Man...some of them may not be so lucky as Bumblebee and go home with someone less experienced. I cringe at the thought of that. He hasn’t shed yet with all I feed him there isn’t any shedding I guess his body isn’t ready. I know he’s not eating tons (still expecting to this to pick up) but is eating at least.

Tomorrow I will start the hand taming process it’s been 6 days at this point. I barely touch him, only to lightly pat his head or clean his tank up weekly. I do spot clean any stools I see throughout the week. Im gonna weigh him any way I can I need to track it and how long he is Im still thinking 5-6 inches. Well that’s all there is today as I wasn’t home most the afternoon. Tomorrow how to tame your dragon begins, I may not be able to get his length but his weight will happen. He’s already on the door of the tank sleeping LOL.

The easiest way I've found to measure them is when they are asleep lol. Actually getting their weight might be easier that way to.
My girlfriend started going through hers at about 40 also. I feel for you, and I especially feel for Tom.
I'm glad that only happens once lol.

Menopause is something to look forward to if you're not planning to have kids. Been there, done that -- menopause I mean, not kids. I think you'll like not having the monthly hassle to deal with anymore :) But between then and now it might get a little weird.

Good luck taming Bee. He should at least be learning that it's your hand that feeds him so he should trust it to touch him sooner or later. If he'll let you pat his head already you're off to a good start.

I don’t plan on children not in the world we live in. When I was 12 years old I thought of my life with kids and married but nowadays menopause is fine to go through. I got marriage Im fine.

Bumblebee ate 6 bites of chicken baby food better than the 3 I was able to get out of him. I also picked him up took me 3 tries and the third try he stopped wiggling free. I held him for 5 seconds then put him down and he ran off. I figure if I try hand taming every day before mealtime which would be 3x daily then eventually he’ll get used to it. I then could start weighing and baths. He seriously needs one he’s got hardened baby food on his chin he won’t let me clean him off. Trust me, I tried. He must’ve thought I was going to suffocate him with a damp paper towel. Tom got some of it off. He then took a giant crap on Tom’s desk LOL. Retested the fecal again still parasite free well considering the low number of them I say parasite/worms free. He’s doing well otherwise, I’ll hand tame around 2PM which is his lunch.

Haha for real! He looked Tom dead in the eyes while taking that dump too which makes it more funny.

Lunchtime taming was a disaster! It took me 5 tries I was able to hold him still which was twice he just stayed in my hand. The second hold he was hesitant to leave my hand. Probably was thinking “why should I go? You’ll just try to hold me again.” Eats from my hand I thought he’d try to trust me. He’s eaten from my hand like 5 days already. I forgot how fast hatchlings are! He ate a dead cricket (freshly died but still ahhh) geez Bee. I decided on phoenix worms and he’ll eat them just fine. Dinner is coming up I will try hand taming again I don’t think it will go so smoothly because Bumblebee just isn’t used to it. I don’t expect him to be. Well it’s almost time to try.

It takes a little while with hatchlings. But he'll come around. 🙂

So if you hold Bee in your hand before you feed him, maybe he'll get the idea that he gets a reward for letting you handle him. And maybe he will eventually learn to enjoy being held for its own sake. After all, your hand is warm -- that's got to count for something for a reptile. Some beardies like to be cuddled, some hate it, and some, like my Puff, seem to at least tolerate it, although sometimes when I held him after I turned the lights off at bedtime, he would do this little maneuver that was sort of a cross between "cuddle up" and "dig in," so I figured he at least enjoyed it somewhat. Bee will develop his own unique response which will also change over time. I hope it will be good for both of you.

Too young to know the difference between a dead cricket and a live one, I guess. But you wouldn't think he'd go after one that wasn't moving. A dead cricket or two once in a while probably won't hurt him, especially since I'm sure you take good care of your crickets just like you do with all your other critters.

Ah, the famous "Look." I had almost forgotten about that. Some call it the "stink eye." No one can glare quite like a beardie, and the mess on the table for emphasis LOL

Yeah which is why I did it before mealtime. He’ll learn it Im not sure if he’ll grow up thinking “ok held me, now food.” At least he has a food response and is understanding the idea. He seems to like the avengers blanket (was Broly’s, washed it) seems to work instead of a hard surface like a reptile carpet or sand would provide. I mean tile is good too Kane likes it. This guy likes soft stuff.

I wonder if he’ll be a cuddler, Broly wasn’t LOL. Maybe it’s just a young dragon thing. I know they don’t stay still. I will try getting him to go in baths keeps the tank clean. I gotta disinfect the tub I used for Broly. I hadn’t got that far yet. I better get go to it.

We used to feed Puff after his bath, so I think he got the idea that it was his reward for tolerating a bath, although we would have fed him whether he behaved in his bath or not, of course. I'd wrap him in a towel and cuddle him while my husband was getting the food ready. It's been suggested that it should be the other way around though -- feed them before you bathe them if you're trying to get them to poop in their bath, but with Puff it didn't seem to matter. I'm sure you'll figure out what works best with Bee.

If Bee likes soft stuff, maybe he will eventually like being cuddled, especially if you're wearing something soft. We had Puff surrounded with soft things in his tank to keep him from getting hurt because he was klutz ;)

He has crap on his tail. I did want to do a bath when he got better with hand taming however it is not working out that way. Soo that’s going to be fun... it’s his first and Im sure he’s going to be stressed to all hell. Im sure he’ll wanna jump out and run away so Im gonna have to be like really careful not letting him get away. I guarantee he’s going to cause chaos trying to get out. I do have a tall enough bowl for a baby doesn’t mean he won’t try to jump the walls of the bowl. He is getting better but still fully against the idea of being held.

My paranoia sets in when I see spots Ive had Alucard have weird spots turning out to be fungal in a million ways. I know he’s not him or come from the same place but still I check for growing/moving or changing appearance. So far the mark is still the same from when first noticed. I do however think he’s had since hatched. There’s nothing sharp in the tank to cause such injury. That’s just my paranoia from a bad experience with black and yellow fungus, it’ll get better over time.

I finally got a picture of the “hole” if anyone was wondering what it looked like. Im certain it’s the yolk sac area that just didn’t seal up yet.

Bath wasn’t a total disaster. He did dunk his head under I was like “wahhh noooo!” it doesn’t appear he is coughing any water so I guess he didn’t aspirate any water. It was a an accident how that happened I was cleaning his tail and he must’ve dunked his head. -.- he totally pulled “let’s give mom a heart attack!” LOL He’s fine though everything is ok.

I've never seen a beardie's "belly button" before (ours was full grown when we got him) but that doesn't look like an injury to me, for whatever it's worth. I'm glad to hear that you both survived his first bath :)

Yup I thought it was the sac area. With sheds it’s supposed to disappear and become a faint line over time.

I did forget to mention he went to the bathroom in the bath. I was figuring to do one bath once a week but he didn’t seem to really hate it when he saw it wasn’t too bad. I’ll keep it to once for now as not add unnecessary stress. I had to buy chicken and apples baby food as chicken and broth is getting harder and harder to buy. There’s a spot for it just it’s either there or not. I just like to have his salad “dressing” so I hope he likes it. I forgot about rapashy grubpie I have some left over. I suppose I can use that.

I see him every day I don’t know if he’s bigger I should say he is because he eats protein and some salad. Im gonna clean off the scale (it’s dusty). Yes he’s 100% boy I saw two bulges on the tail base.
