Bumblebee...roll out!

He’s here! The snow cleared and we were able to make it today. I was wondering why Tom didn’t work today.

He’s settling in right now and we tried to sex him he is still kinda young which I thought he’d be bigger (note I never met Bee or his parents). Breeder said he is the second smallest next to Donatello (the runt he’s keeping). So he had two runts Im fine with that. I had Kane out and he stopped by the 20 gall he tilted his head and black bearded at Bee (who’s in his tank btw) he quickly calmed down and just waved at him. They do not have adenovirus he said they didn’t (parents) Bumblebee and Donatello are both runts he assured us that he’ll grow out fine.

Here he is:

Haha! I think its funny that is the stereotype for teenage girls. Being one myself, I find it wildly inaccurate. Though, I must admit I've always been a tom boy. Going so far as since I'm online school there are still kids who think I'm male.
I only think it's teenaged girls on tv that sound like that.... and 3 real world ones 🤣🤣 I was just being silly 😜

I was able to pick him up. I finally was able to get the tail over his head though he wanted out of my grasp. I like being 100% and yeah seems to be a boy. Im ocd about clean so I like to clean him up and he still needs to learn what a bath is or if he’ll drink from it. Broly didn’t care as a young dragon he acted more like it was acid till he grew older. A whole new experience with a new boy to see what he likes and dislikes. I already figured out he likes monster trucks.

Man, he gets jealous of his siblings getting bigger bugs. He knows what they’re getting and he would like the same. He thinks bigger than his stomach I swear.. I know he shouldn’t get that size I won’t cave in because he’s now uhh refusing the smaller ones. He eventually ate them but he really doesn’t want them. Boy eat your protein this is the size you get for a few months. He looks at me like Im crazy. He’s also getting dirty, hmm he’s gonna need that bath. I’ll have to get him one somehow.

My new girl Lucy goes crazy every time she bugs. Like your boy she don't care if they are way to big, she would try to eat them anyways. It's kinda of fun to see how they react 🙂
She HATES baths also, I have better luck just running the faucet and rinsing her that way.

Because chameleons can change color and blend in with their environment -- your know, "now you see them, now you don't," I thought maybe your beardie was especially good at changing color and that's why you named him "Mirage"?

I always wanted a chameleon or leopard geckos.
He got bigger slightly since Friday. It’s barely noticeable but I know he did. Wonder if he’ll be 18 or 19” he could be a bit on the smaller side like 16-17” he is the runt like Donnie (the breeder’s new baby).

I noticed a “hole” on the belly, it’s dry not bleeding or oozing. I contacted the breeder he said sounds like the umbilical cord “mark”. I guess that makes sense it doesn’t move so not a mite of any sort. I never seen that before. I ran my finger on his belly it doesn’t feel like anything so I guess that’s what it is. I never noticed it. Tom said it’s what it is too when I showed a picture. It was hard getting that pic by the way he squirmed.

When I read hole on the belly, my first thought was umbilical cord also.

I didn’t have any idea. Broly didn’t have one, Vash (first beardie) didn’t and neither did Alucard. None of them ever showed me what that is LOL.

I've never had a hatchling that small. It's seems shops and breeders alike are selling them much smaller than in the past. Personally I think that is a huge mistake. I've been keeping beardies for 10 years or so and have raised 5 hatchlings. Taking care of a very small hatchling would still be challenging for me, someone that is new to beardies are likely going to crash right out of the gate. People that sell them that small are doing a huge disservice to the keeper and are putting the hatchlings life in unnecessary danger.
Ethical sellers are going to keep them till they are well established and thriving.

Im starting to think he should have waited till March but here we are. I don’t know I was told he hatched Jan 1. I got this Im lucky I breed crix and roaches. I went to the Petco...they were smaller than Bumblebee! When I saw this I felt Bumblebee is ok. You are right though, new keepers are going to try a hatchling and what they don’t know is the dragons are too young. I don’t blame new keepers trying I blame the pet stores/breeders selling dragons off too young.

Exactly. Bee is lucky, your experienced and know what to do. Most people buying at box stores aren't.

@SHBailey Ahh haha! Sorry, I'm a bit stupid! No, the reason I named him Mirage is because when we first got him I would let him out of his tank and go to grab the bugs to feed him and when I turned back around he was gone. I often wondered if he was a mirage...so it seemed to be the perfect name :D

If he's still got a hole where his umbilical cord used to be then I'd say yeah, they let him go too young. Lots of people want to get a young animal when they get a pet (puppies, kittens, etc.) But where bearded dragons are concerned they don't realize how hard it is to raise a little one. I don't say that from experience, just from the horror stories I've heard. Yes, Bee is lucky he got you for a "mom."

Good luck introducing him to a bath. We were lucky about that too -- Puff was used to it when we got him, and the guy at the rescue who helped take care of them whispered in my ear, "He gets a bath every morning and he poops in it." Good to know. He did go through a phase where he'd freak out and crawl up my arm to get out of the water, but that started all of a sudden when we tried to bathe him in a metal sink while visiting my in-laws. I thought he'd get over it when we got back home to his plastic tub, but it took a while. Good luck with Bee. It sounds like he's starting to need one.

That's hilarious that he wants what the other beardies are eating. Maybe you're going to have to set things up so he can't see what the others are getting? Either way, I hope he learns to be satisfied with what he gets soon.
