Bumblebee...roll out!

He’s here! The snow cleared and we were able to make it today. I was wondering why Tom didn’t work today.

He’s settling in right now and we tried to sex him he is still kinda young which I thought he’d be bigger (note I never met Bee or his parents). Breeder said he is the second smallest next to Donatello (the runt he’s keeping). So he had two runts Im fine with that. I had Kane out and he stopped by the 20 gall he tilted his head and black bearded at Bee (who’s in his tank btw) he quickly calmed down and just waved at him. They do not have adenovirus he said they didn’t (parents) Bumblebee and Donatello are both runts he assured us that he’ll grow out fine.

Here he is:

I woke up late it was supposed to be 9AM turned out the clock said 9:39...I was like oops. It’s 10:06 at the time of writing this and he decides he’s not gonna look for the heat lamp LOL. Im gonna let him do his thing I know he’s behind the log not under it so he should notice lights on.
He’s should be ready to come out from behind eventually. If I have to I’ll move him to the heat so he can chase a few crickets maybe a roach. He’s dealing with relocation stress I don’t expect to eat much or at all for a few days. It’s a bit early and every dragon is just waking up and heating up except Bee LOL. He’ll get into the morning routine like everyone else. He doesn’t know how we do things.

It don't take them long to figure things out. Zsa Zsa was 3 to 4 days. Lucy about the same.
Zsa Zsa attacked bugs from day 1 though it took Lucy 4 to 5 before she really started hunting them.

Nope he just wanted to stay behind the log for a while more. He saw me come up to the shelf (Bee and Kane are on two different shelves) and got the container full of adult crickets to feed Kane and Jamie. I breed my own feeder insects so no problems here with that. Kane ate like 18 in 15 minutes (he never eats much even as a hatchling) Jamie went for 19. Bee wanted what they were having I showed him I said “you can’t have these guys sorry.” I dropped the remaining adults and got 10 babies (I do this to start because of relocation stress doesn’t let them eat much) to my surprise he ate all 10 in about 15 minutes. He got a bit disappointed he had to get the babies. He hesitated a bit in the beginning. He was like “excuse me? What is this? I want what they got but you give me this! Fine I’ll eat them but I don’t like it I want big ones. Next time better be big.”
Wont he be disappointed in the afternoon LOL. I got squash baby food reason being Jamie likes her salads topped with squash baby food I don’t exactly know why but whatever she’ll eat it at least.

A first actual stool! It’s weird to see what a stool is supposed to look like. I got used to blue urates...
Anyway, it’s normal and no smell.

[A little bit of technical advice about this website -- don't try to post a message until you're logged on. Things get all mixed up if you do it backwards. I just learned that the hard way.]

Anyway, it sounds like Bee is adjusting to his new home extremely well. His eyes are bigger than his stomach. Those adult crickets are probably almost as big as he is LOL

Ok, now I know what went wrong. This thread has a 2nd page already. Anyway, I agree with xp29's last post -- off to a great start, beautiful relationship, and a beautiful little beardie. They start out soooo small.

Very small. He’s 1 month old considering Feb 1 just passed. I put on the calendar his bday Jan 1. He’s definitely a runt of the clutch looking through pictures of Kane as a baby same age he’s bigger. Kane is out and all he did was stare at Bee didn’t do anything just stared and walked off to his window. Bee followed him in his tank I think he’s cautious around him.

Another round of baby crickets he just bearded at me like he said “I said bigger ones!”

Feisty little guy. Have you weighed him yet?

At least Kane is more or less ignoring him now. That's progress, isn't it? But it sounds like Bee is curious about him, maybe as well as cautious. Cautious is good. Won't get him in as much trouble as curious.

No, I havent but I need to so I can dose the calcium/vitamin correctly. I just give .02 which is the lowest I can go. I figured it’s a safe amount for now. He literally won’t let me touch him so it’s hard to get weight. He just runs off before I can approach. I won’t chase him so I’ll have to wait for him to calm down. I gave a salad topped with chicken baby food (unopened it was for Broly). He LOVES THE CHICKEN BABY FOOD!! Hey it got him to try the salad. Safer than mealworms. Squash was a bit thick he had trouble chewing it but he got it chewed and swallowed down eventually...I didn’t realize the veggie itself was thick Im gonna have to start grating it instead. My bad Bee. I mean they’re bite sized just too thick for his tiny jaw. Im sure he won’t get impacted from just two everything else is thinner.

If he will eat salad already your way ahead in the race 🙂

Heck yeah!!!

Jamie head bobbed and he waved LOL. I used to think head bobbing was a male thing (this was when information was limited on bearded dragons year was 2004) turns out females can do it too.

He ate a few bites of salad as a hatchling he’s not too interested but at least he does try. Tom did test his fecal (the first one that came out) I think I’ll get results tomorrow or Tom just noted it and kept it to himself. He’s not medicating him so I take it no parasites/worms are high levels. I think he’ll test again in a few weeks after the relocation stress has passed. Bumblebee keeps wanting out LOL. He’s trying to jump towards the UVB to see if he can escape out that way. Thing is, he can’t he keeps falling before reaching the top the log and plant (small fake plant he hides in) aren’t tall enough to help him up. There’s a few greyish white scales he may start shedding soon or it’s his color but I never really heard of a gray dragon with other colors. I guess it’s possible. He has a nice pattern I don’t think I showed off his back yet. Ignore the spots on the tank it’s literally water spots I didn’t clean off yet.

Don't freak out the first time you weigh him ;) Our little snake started out at 4 grams. OMG 4 *grams* -- not even one ounce. I could have mailed him for whatever the minimum postage was for a letter back then! Not that I would ever try, of course. I wondered if we were really going to be able to keep something so small and fragile alive. It took him a while to start putting on weight and I was worried about him, but he finally grew. Maybe Bee will put on a little more weight by the time he lets you touch him so the number on the scale won't be so shocking the first time.

It's good that you found some stuff he really likes and wow! salad at his age. Your're so lucky. Seems like everyone has trouble getting their beardies to eat veggies even when they start them young, and if not, forget it. Squash is soft, so what he managed to eat probably won't hurt him. It's good for hydration too -- soaks up water like a sponge.

He'll probably get used to you soon. I know little ones have to be "tamed" even though I never had that experience myself. Puff was already tame when we got him. He rode home under my coat and only started wiggling when I got up to take him in the house. Once Bumblebee figures out that your hand is not a 5-headed monster that wants to eat him but rather brings food for him to eat instead, you should be good. Maybe he'll even let you cuddle him eventually. And it sounds like he's making friends with the other beardie(s?), well, Jamie at least.

The picture is beautiful. You're right -- he does have a nice pattern, and he already looks like he's filled out a little since the last one. I agree with you -- the grey is probably shed. It just means he's outgrowing his skin. But it's always fun to see what color they turn out after they shed.

He ate from my hand about 5-6 pieces of collard then decided I was annoying and ran away. I was happy it’s a good bonding experience. He got baby food on his face because again he won’t touch without the chicken. He’s not having me pick him up to clean his face LOL. Also means no bath to scrub it off sheesh. I understand I get it he doesn’t know me or my intentions.

Remember Bailey, Broly also ate salads well up until 1 yr old. He then decided everything was yucky except the butternut squash.

Another formed stool woohoo! I just realized he looks the size of poor Alucard... Bee could totally fit in a small deli cup. Kane and Bee are becoming friends it looks like mostly ignores Bee but still knows he’s there and stops by for a quick lick at the door and walks off. Jamie on the other hand has decided she’s dominating over Bumblebee always head bobbing.

Tom handled Bee of course he tried getting away as soon as he got in his hand. He’s becoming confident with us. He still thinks these annoying humans are just feeding then they think they can clean my face ha no! Anyway time to go watch Eagles play!
