repti sun 10.0 T5.. it’s 18’…. I was under the impression I could buy a cheap one at Walmart like everyone’s saying. But it looks like this bulb needs to get plugged into something so I don’t know how that would help

You do not want a cheap one from Walmart --there are no reflectors in ones from Walmart or your home improvement stores and you want one w/ a reflector in it ------ please go to Pet Smart or on line and get a fixture 18" fixtures are T 8's here is some links to what I am talking about --

Oh jeez, this is a lot more expensive than I thought. Is there a better bulb/combo I should look for from a different brand? And is this able to be on a timer? Because I had both bulbs on a timer and it made my life a lot easier.

Yes they can be plugged into a timer---- no these fixtures do not come w/ a bulb-- the only fixture that will come w/ a 5.0 bulb is the 24" T 5 and then that bulb can be used w/ the same distance as the 10.0 T 8 but I do not recommend for a long period of use because its not as strong as the 10.0 bulb and the 5.0 bulbs are more for aquarium use --- the 10.0 bulbs are more for reptiles -- the 5.0 bulbs are good for short use if say your 10.0 bulb blows out it gets broken or you need it till you can replace w/ a 10.0 bulb ---
you can use this one but I am not a fan of Zilla brands -- you must replace the bulb that it comes w/ they are not very good --- and this will have a cover on the fixture take it off and use the bulb you have now and leave the cover OFF after changing out the bulb ----- I would spend the extra money on the Reptisun hood your getting a better quality brand ----

Once you get it and we get it properly placed and distanced it will be fine - for first timers the UVB's are confusing - let me know what you decide please
