My beard dragon went into brumation early September do to living with no power from hurricane. She woke back and ate pooped. She went to vet, everything is fine just working on hydration for constapation. She’s went back into brumation two ago but when I checked on her she laying under the rock with eyes open half the day. I’m ok, you’re done now. I fed her a worm than goes back and hides. I don’t get it. I don’t want her to get messed up stomach but also don’t understand why her eyes are open. She almost 2

Is all your surface basking temps up to par -- 95-100 taken w/ a digital probe thermometer and your UVB a long tube fixture placed correctly for the screen on the tank? It sounds like shes doing the slowing down thing which many of them are -- hanging out in their caves not eating much eating very little

Yes lighting is good. I’m not sure why she doesn’t stay fully asleep. She naps but she’s also just staring off sometimes into nothing. I have feelings it’s cause she went into early and came out. I’m also keeping it cool at night not under 65 though. I’m going on vacation next week so bit nervous leaving her. She will have some other person watching her.

The person watching her is familiar w/ her and or dragons? It sounds like shes just doing the lazy thing - normal for this time of year - how is she getting water? And what makes you think shes constipated? Dragons can go long periods of time w/ out pooping -- like 3 weeks to a month

During brumation, dragons not necessarily sleep all day long. My Taco (male dragon, at the time of brumation 10 months old) during brumation slept only little more than his normal amount of sleep, and had the eyes open or half open during most of the day. Most days, he woke up about 1 hour later than usually, fell asleep about one hour earlier than normal, and during day was awake, moving little and reacting very little. He stayed almost all the time in his burrow/ cave (I did not take him out of it, but was able to see in a bit so I know that his eyes were mostly open). He was done with that after 3 months. It was clearly brumation, as it happened during winter time (he was even done with it exactly when the amount of daylight started to increase), and he started with very active springtime behavior afterwards and is overall healthy.

Hey! I'm planning on ordering a 4x2x2 for my next beardie but I'm worried about lighting. I have a UVA and a UVB but they are small (the UVA just being a bulb and the UVB being 12 ish inches?) My house is drafty so I need a strong light that puts off quite a good amount of heat, any suggestions?
