Hey y'all, Lewis is around 9 months now, but lately he's been sleeping A LOT and only waking up to do nothing and look around. I gave him water two days ago, but then he goes back into his cave to sleep, even when the heat lamp is on. It's getting colder now here, so could he be brumating? He's not a year yet, but I'm not sure.

Sometimes younger beardies will burmate so he should be fine if he has a good weight, but i'd keep an eye on him just in case.

Should I keep the lights on while he is brumating ? I've got the CHE on. Mystic has been sleeping since Saturday night.

Nine months is a bit young, but it's not unheard of. If you are able I would suggest scheduling a check up at the vet. I generally recommend people get a check up done before brumating in general, but this would also rule out any alternative causes if it isn't brumation.

If he is brumating then you should just act as if he's not. Keep the same lighting schedule, keep the same temps, offer food as you normally would (he will likely eat still, it just won't be often). Don't do anything that interfere though, if he's healthy and he wants to go down just let him.

For my burmating beardie i usually leave the lights on... mostly because my two adult beardies 40 gallons are next to each other so ive found its easier for me to use only two light fixtures, a double deep dome for the heat lights and then the 46" uvb tube. But sadly one of the switches for my beardie thats currently burmating stopped working so now he only has uvb over him which should be fine until i get it fixed. I do agree with scheduling a check up at the vet as well. I havent scheduled a vet check up for mine but hes been doing this for weeks now so i just let him be since hes not showing any signs of sickness and sometimes wonders around along with not loosing any weight.

I can feel her staring into my soul demanding food
She was having a staring contest with a mealworm. I guess I never taught her to not play with her food, lol.
bro went to bed already, it’s 10:36 pm
Definitely going to be using this image if I ever catch a fence lizard again.
