bernie is a 4 year old female dragon. she goes to the herp vet annually and has never had any disease or parasites. she gets a clean bill of health.
she has never brumated in the winter. our vet and we have a theory that she enters a partial brumation state in the summer, when the ac gets turned on for the first time.
about a week ago, she went into the corner and appears to be in a deep brumation state. she hasn't eaten. she lifts her head up every now and again. but for the most part, she is lifeless. my hubby and i keep checking on her cuz she has never done this.
for those that have experienced deep brumation, does this appear normal? i know that length of brumation varies per dragon, but it is killing us having her act this way.
Keep an eye on her weight and hydration. During brumation their metabolism slow and they eat, drink, and poop very little if at all. Weight loss is negligible. Brumation can last for a short period to several months depending on the dragon.
Yes, it's very important to keep her well hydrated. And, if she has something in her belly and hasn't passed it, you need to get her too poo, so you could even massage her right side from armpit to vent area to help it move along. Does she have a darkened beard and/or tip of tail?
