My beardie started sleeping alot, followed by an almost complete loss of appetite is now extremely lethargic..... he seems to be sleeping very deeply to the point of almost looking dead he measures 12 inches long true age not known. He was supposedly 3 weeks old per pet-co. Seems to be looking weight. Tank temp is staying at 78 hot side 68 cold side ( I am assuming brumation) I have stopped offering food the last 2 days he wants none of it. ( normally has a great appetite) .... what do I need to do. Is there a way to tell if this is brumation for sure . The nearest vet is 2 hours away
Hi Ryan, a 12" dragon is too young/small to brumate but his lethargy will be caused by the very low temps. He needs a basking area of 105 and a cooler side around 75-80. What exact tyoe + brand of lights do you have ? Can you post pics of your dragon and also his tank, showing the light placement ? Here's how : https://www.beardeddragon.org/useruploads/ Then use the XIMG to upload pics
I was assuming he was trying to brumate so I turned his lights off 1 day ago. his normal hot side temp is 108 and his normal cold side temp is 80-85 he uses a ceramic heater at night, and a heatlamp and normal lamp and Mega-Ray during the day.
Yes, he's too small so def. keep the lights on. If you can't get him to a vet that's 2 hours away, call to see if a regular vet can check his poo and take in a fecal sample. They can at least tell you if he has parasiteslike coccidia [ which can cause lethargy ] and then you can get meds. prescribed and then check here for help on dosing. Several people here can help with how much meds. to give him and some meds. can even be ordedered online.
That's just one thing to do to try to determine what's causing the lethargy.
What exactly was he eating before and how did you hydrate him ? He may be dehydrated spo offer water by dripping on his snout to see if he'll drink. What supplements do you use like calcium or vitamins ? How much time was he spending under the Megaray ?
