I have a 9 month old beardie, and the last few days he has been acting strange. He starts on his log which is where he has been sleeping, and he will bask there. Then mid way through the day, he goes down and starts to lay in the sand. His front legs are covered completely in the sand, and every once in a while he will open his eyes. He made me nervous yesterday so I put him in the tub in case he was dehydrated, and he actually was licking the water as I was dripping it from my finger tips, he has never done that before! I then put him on his log, and he seemed fine, alert, etc, he even ate 6 superworms after that!
Well today same thing, he is back in the sand. I did not move him afraid maybe he is trying to brummate.
How do you know if they are sick or brummating, I have never gone through brummation before if that is what it is, so I have not idea what to expect, and if he is sick I feel like I need to help him, but I am clueless at this point!
Please help, not sure whether this is normal, or if he is sick
Sounds like he could be impacted from the sand.. Or jus brumating.. My 11 month old is doing similar not eating as much and not as active...Does he eat the sand? How old is your UVB bulb? viewtopic.php?f=34&t=132151
Why in the world would you think he is impacted? you can't say that just because he is on sand.
It possible he is going into brumation, there is a good article on the article and caresheet page you should probably read. When he is laying down, does it look like he is just sleeping? Is he going to the bathroom ok?
since he seemed thirsty, you might want to try and get him to drink some more.
Yes when he lays down he even burrows down and covers up his legs and closed his eyes, but when I walk by he sometimes opens them and looks at me. He woke up this am, I put him in the windowsill for sun and put him in the tub to soak him, then put him in his basking area. I just got home now (3 hrs later, and he is back in the sand in that same spot. He went to the bathroom earlier this week, but has not really been eating, so I guess that is why he has not gone recently??
