So Hermes has been taking full advantage of his new hide that I constructed and has virtually decided not to come out for the past 2 weeks. When I look in there, he's not sleeping, just laying in the dark. Generally I can tempt him out with food but lately he's not that interested, even with his live feeders. Though he will eat the salads I give him in the morning. I know the lil booger didn't brumate with his last owner as the kid told me he always brought him outside his tank and carried him around. So I wondered, is it possible for a bearded dragon to brumate during spring time if they didn't have a shut down period over the colder months? Where I live is slightly cooler than the house he came from, but his average viv temp is 75-80. 100 for basking as per usual. I'm just wondering if anyone else has seen this kind of behavior before.
He did express great interest this past Saturday on coming out of his viv early in the day (glass dancing, weaving back and forth, banging his wee nose on the glass). I set up a basking spot for him which he used in-between roaming the room. I also took him outside that day for about 10 minutes since it was warm enough and the sun was shining. He seemed to be doing great. Dunno why he's being such a hermit now. :\
have to remember, in australia the season times are different, having winter in what we have summer. try blocking off the hide for a few days and see if it makes a difference
That only makes sense if he hatched in Australia and was raised there a while. He hatched here in the US so he's on US seasonal time.
I just don't know if it would be better to disturb him by forcing him to interact with the world when it seems he doesn't want to. Seems he might get stressed out.
