ive recently dont like the idea of the prices of pheonix worms these days so ive decide to start a phoenix colony but im a newbie to this so and tips, advise, and instuctions would help alot. And also pictures of phoenix worms and in their diferent state like coccoon and pupil etc. pictures! thanks
I've had the same thought! I have no clue how you'd breed them and the reason their supposedly so great is because of what their fed so I guess if you breed them and feed them differently the nutrition content will change a bit. Good luck though, if you do it, let the rest of us know
Actually, I don't think it's possible to breed Phoenix Worms yourself. Phoenix worms are actually black soldier fly maggots, and they turn into flies... Not moths or butterflies. The only successful breeding project I've heard of with them included luring in wild black soldier flies to mate, but you need some kind of special set-up for that. Plus, feeding them wild-bred maggots probably isn't the best idea LOL, and the reason that they are so nutritious is because of the food mix that the company feeds them. Just stick to buying them.
i could build and outside cage for them like the iguana and they juts fly around in their and juts mate. i would take the box out that attrachs them to mate their ,and boom! i got my phoenix worms.(but that was just a dream) lol 8)
wow thanks that gives me the idea of moding it or just making my own, they seem simple and i could probly build it. since im out during the summer im going to do it,and the soilder flys are native to N.C so im lucky. thanks!
Ok thanks guys. Im going to go out this month and get some materials its seems somewhat easy but i got my own ideas on how to build one, i hope it goes well :| :?:
So heres wat i have done
Its kinda of crappy looking but i just hope it works, also just to let you know its just my prototype just to see if it works. ill be adding the compost later. Any comments, improvements, and any questions are welcome and needed.
ummm, did you work for NASA??! looks like some crazy lunar lander vehicle
Nice Job, I hope it works for you, it's too cold up here in Mass for those flies I think.
ok so i got the compost going and it seems ill have to make a 2.0 version that will withstand the weather. but so far i see lots of flys in and around it, but i cant tell if i see and black solider flys. I was thinking what jess said about feeding him wild breed pheonix worms and i am a little cautions but is their anyway that i could starilize the maggots without killing them? and i dont think it matters what i feed them becasue its probly no different then what they feed the ones at phoenix worms.com. any suggestions?
