Hello, I wanted to purchase a bearded dragon from someone other than the pet store because I've heard a LOT of horror stories about the quality of health that Petco/Petsmart reptiles have. I was hoping that someone might know some reputable reptile breeders in Georgia, close to Loganville would be great. I have tried searching for local reptile breeders, but have not had any luck so far. Also, I am not looking for a special color or anything. I would just really like to see the bearded dragon in person before purchasing.
I'm not totally sure about breeders located in GA but if you are in Loganville then you are pretty close to the Gwinnett Co. Fairgrounds, where the Atlanta Repticon is held. The next one is actually happening Oct. 13-14. I ended up getting my baby there when we were home visiting this past summer-the breeder I was interested in was there and had babies from the clutch I liked. But there were a lot of baby beardies there in July for a variety of prices so there was definitely a choice.
I'm sure others may have a better idea of breeders in case you don't find anything you like at the Repticon. Good luck!!
I will 2nd the Repticon Atlanta suggestion. I see at least two bearded dragon breeders listed as exhibitors for the October show, Beardeddragon.co and Carolina Designer Dragons. CDD was at the previous show, and their bearded dragons were really gorgeous. I googled for Ga breeders but came up empty. I live in GA, but ordered my first baby beardie based off a picture, from the Atomic Lizard Ranch. My 2nd older beardie was based off a picture on this site, he was an adoptee.
The show is also a good place to pick up feeders at a good price without incurring shipping charges. You can get other supplies there as well such as bulbs etc., the prices may or may not be competitive.
I will also say that not all breeders are equal. I have seen some reptiles that are not in the greatest shape at previous shows, while others are in great shape.
Agree on the show being a good place to pick up supplies and feeders. I don't remember supplies being much cheaper than you could get elsewhere but they weren't necessarily more expensive either. If you are getting a new baby, it's nice to be able to pick up appropriate sized feeders right there.
Carolina Designer Dragons had a lot of nice babies at the July show so they are a good option, for sure. Beardeddragons.co is the joint venture of Rio and Yellow Room Reptiles which is where I got my baby. I've heard great things about CDD and can speak personally about the quality of beardeddragons.co dragons-healthy, obviously handled daily, and mine has been clearing his bowl of greens since day one. Crazy!
There were definitely some less healthy looking animals, as was said before so use caution. I think between those two breeders you have some very viable options. Also, I just thought of a breeder I see on Fauna Classifieds from GA. They are Southern Bearded Dragons. They seem to produce nice dragons too but I have limited knowledge of them. http://southernbeardies.com/Home_Page.php
Southern Beardies, Robert is raising some top notched dragons at a great price. He is known among some of the bigger named breeders. I have 2 from him in my collection. Really glowing highlighter orange trans dragons.
