One more "brumation" question-just to get it through my thick head. Kai is not in full-on brumation. He has a great appetite for bugs, basked this morning, got a dish of fresh moistened veggies and thats it. He had 5 superworms yesterday and some greens (by accident with the worms). He went over to the rock he waits on for food and when I left the room, I saw he had scattered his greens all over looking for bugs but didnt eat any greens. He went back into his cave on the warm side of his enclosure with eyes open and head up, out of the uvb light. He will likely stay there all day. It got very cold outside overnight and SNOWED here. Leave him in his cave and leave him alone, even if he stays all day and night? He's not sick or dehydrated or anything...just super sensitive to outside seasonal changes.

As long as your home stays in the low 70's or above (some say 68) I'd let him do what he wants 🙂 If it gets colder than that, I'd run a heat emitter and put him under or near it.

74 on cool side and 88 on warm side. He is laying in the hide right under his basking platform, where the slate top probably radiates some warmth to him.

Exactly this is what I do.
I make sure that he has a proper habitat (temperature, light, "furniture") - he uses it to his liking (as long as not something looks really off). If he thinks staying in his cave, that's up to him.
Thank you both!

Thanks! I did what you guys suggested and he came out on his own around 9am, first poked his head out, then investigated his greens for bugs (sorry Kai, you got some yesterday!) and then went to bask. Hes still out now.

That's how Lucy acts also. (She is the only one of mine that actually uses a hide)

She and Zsa Zsa both love baskets for some reason.

A behavior also very typical for my dragon Taco, who uses all kinds of hides, burrows, caves... for sleeping and usually also for some time during the day.

Yeah it got sunny out so I opened the curtains so he could see out and he went deeper into his cave. So I closed the curtains and left him be. He already basked today on his own earlier.

a poem by AHBD (THANK YOU SO MUCH! I LOVE IT!)

Sir Henry the dragon
Looking for his dragon girl
Ventures out in to the wide world
His hopes are up but as you can see
There is no dragon girl for Sir Henry
A light bulb goes off and he takes mom aside
Could you perchance get me a mail order bride ?

Hey! We’re the same age! That’s cool!
Hi there a little update we went from a 50 watt heat lamp to a 100 watt basking halogen heat lamp hahaha I saw some comments about it being so close so I made sure to put it a ruler away from her
Has anyone seen this before? Something in the corner of his mouth
