Hi all! I have adopted the littlest little thing about 2 months ago. I believe she is about 5 months old now, around 9''. She is still very skittish, and when I take her out of her cage she is always trying to escape, etc. I am afraid to let her explore as she is still so tiny and has almost gotten through some really tight spots! I dragon-proof my bathroom and let her run around in there a bit. I've also put a t shirt smelling like me in her cage. What else can I do to bond with her before she gets big enough to romp around? I've seen a $20 play pen from Amazon.
Another question, I've heard they are the most manageable when their lights are going off. I am not usually home when her lights go off - would it be ok to interrupt her sleep to put her on me and carry her around for a bit, or should I let her sleep uninterrupted?
You can hand feed her and talk to her, and what ive learned is that they like when your at their level so they dont feel like their about to get eaten. I would not take her out when shes asleep unless theres a fire or something like that.
Hey there! I have two babies, both around 3 months old. I have had them for a month, in separate enclosures of course. Toast, the one on the left, was pretty skittish, and still can be, whereas Pistachio has become really calm. Your baby may just have a more fiery personality, but I have had a lot of success with hand feeding and reading to them. I sit by the enclosures and read a few pages a day. I think hearing the sound of your voice over and over really gets them used to you. I also think that they seem to be the most tolerant of my handling about an hour after they have eaten their insects. I hope this helps!
Thanks everyone! I talk to her pretty regularly and tell her how beautiful she is. I hand feed her greens just about everyday, and take her out to lay on my shoulder when lights first go out and she's not totally asleep yet, but still sleepy enough to where she won't squirm away.
Thanks for all the tips! I may try getting her a harness and letting her run around my apartment.
