hi, OK i noticed on me 2-3 month old bearded dragon has a black tip on the end of his tail. it's about 1/8 -1/4 of a inch long and doesn't seem to be spreading. i put neosporan on it and when you gently rub it black dried grit like skin comes off, and he seems to have feeling in it also. is this rot? or something with him shedding? it does look like his tail is about to shed again. i will try to post pics but i lost my usb cord (not a standard one either) for my camera and my phone takes crappy pics
When a bearded dragon is shedding it's tail is normally lighter than it normally is. At least I believe so, that's what my dragon does before he sheds.
I hope this helps!
Tail Rot can come from an unseen injury or even retained shed. Pedialyte and warm water for 20-30 mins. This will help with dehydration and help soften the tail. To help the tail, you can use some plain Neosporin several times a day to see if it will soften and get some better color in the tail. If this does not help you may want to take you beardie to a Herp Vet, especially if the tip breaks or falls off.
how old is your beardie? my maxwell is 3 and a half and as they get older they sometimes have issue shedding, max has the hardest time shedding ever! and his tail looks darker than the rest of his body from reatained shed, have your tried upping the humidity in the tank. i learned when max is shedding it helps him alot try taking a really soft toothbrush to it brush with the scales to see if it will slide off with water? i also know that a black tail signifies pain as well but if stuff is rubbing off its most likely just reatined shed

yea i'm going try to up the humidity it's around 30-40 right now in the basking area. the retained shed makes since.......so how does one raise the humidity? spray the area with water or put a water dish in the area?
On a side note, bearded dragons are climated to dry heat. Many people do not realize but Bearded Dragons if kept in humid and wet conditions they can get respiratory problems. Like mediabandit said just keep giving him baths. You can mist him but make sure the tank is not enclosed, but kept well ventilated.
