If I can keep everything up and running successfully, I'll start a thread on it with step-by-step details and pictures. So far I have learned:
don't overfeed (it will stink)
feed meats very sparingly (see above)
make sure it doesn't get too hot - I haven't figured out how hot too hot is yet, tho (they will start leaving the bin while they're still growing)
don't feed raw vegetables (they don't seem to eat them much - or at all- so the veggies just lay around in the bin and mold)
One flaw I found in my screen house which I discovered yesterday: little lizards - anoles - have managed to squeeze in somewhere and were happily gulping down my adult Black Flies. I think they're coming in between the floorboards so I have to fix that next.
should the bio-pod be in a cooler place in the shade. Table scraps can become scarce as the colony grows and I have read that some use dog food and grains to feed them.
It's in total shade already, so all I can do to get it any cooler is leave the lid off - something they suggest on their website. They have plenty of food in the bin, maybe even too much food, which could be generating more heat as it decays. I'll keep tinkering with it until I get it just right.
