Vlad's beard turned really black today. I've seen it darken and get lighter but this is definitely the darkest I've seen it. He doesn't seem angry at all, and he's been eating fine. I had him out earlier visiting with some house guests in a room that is a bit cooler than his tank, but he seemed fine and wasn't like this when I put him back. Are there other reasons than him being stressed or angry that his beard would turn black?
There could be many reasons. Do you have any other dragons? Seen his reflection? Didn't want to go back in his enclosure? He is going through a pubescent period? Amongst numerous others, they can only guess.
I don't have any other dragons, and I didn't put him in front of any mirrors. I guess he could have seen a reflection in the glass of his tank but nothing he hasn't seen a million times. He's about 9 or 10 months old, so I guess it could be "puberty" but he wasn't acting aggressive. He was just sitting under his piece of twisty wood. I picked him up with no problem and he's been sitting with me...his beard is getting lighter. I have not seems any head bobbing or any think like that. I just wanted to make sure he wasn't getting sick or something.
My Charizard is doing the same thing, darkening his beard for no reason occationaly. Or jumping away to go annoying Winston our adult male who just watches Charizards frantic displays. He head bobbed at me the other day actually...
