Hello! I’m a newbie here and a 1st time bearded dragon owner. A baby! 5-6 inches. Not sure of a name or if it’s a boy/girl yet! I’ve owned Russian tortoises in the past so familiar with reptiles but not bearded dragons.
Anyways, I wanted to see if my lighting temps are correct I’ve researched so so much and tried to perfect the temps but I think they’re a tad lower than I’d like them to be. Basking temp surface is 95-97. Rest of tank is 77-80 (i use 2 60w regular lightbulbs. One may be halogen) My enclosure is 18 inches high with wide mesh screen. (UVB 34” tube on top of screen; extended from the basking spot (8-10” away) to the rest of the enclosure- it’s an Arcadia t5 39w). I have a 60w CHE at night (keeping it around 76-80 at night temps) I have a bunch of pictures of the enclosure on my page but will include some photos in this thread. Type of terrarium is a 120 gal. equivalent- Thrive eco flex 48”. It’s front open, I believe PVC/plastic enclosure.

Are the temps okay? Worried because my thermometers are so different from my digital probe (surface temp?) to the ambient basking temp.
Also, any name suggestions as well as enclosure suggestions please feel free to comment. I’m learning and I’d like to know y’all’s ways of raising a happy healthy beardie:)

Surface basking temps should be 105-110 taken w a digital probe thermometer- the screen is a wide hole it can stay on top but make sure your uvb is directly above the basking decor piece 8-10 inches-

You're new baby is so cute. You don't need night time heating if your house doesn't go below 65f at night. Even if it does you want the temps to drop somewhat compared to the day.

As mentioned you want to add another 10 degrees to your basking temps. Just make sure the probe has time to heat up for accurate temps. It can take a while to stop creeping upwards.

I love your decor, do you mind sharing the brand of the big corner hide?

🫡yes’m it’s 10” from the basking “rock” and 8” along the log! Which is where baby beardie is most of his/her day. What do you suggest to boost temps up by a few degrees?

Awesome thank you so much for the advice, I’m definitely thinking I need more than 1 probe thermometer, or I was thinking of the lazer thermometer that way I can get quick temp reads throughout the enclosure

Thank you!! The babies very active and alert, and seems to have a growing appetite every day😅. Our apartment is always 69-70° so I was worried it was too cold for the little guy. That makes me feel better tho!
I went with a theme lol the enclosure/2 decorations (rock and cactus hideouts) are Thrive brand.

Here’s the brand of the rock! Picture below:

That's great that he's busy and hungry. I got Beebz a little less than 2 months ago when he was around the size yours is now. I couldn't believe how much the little dude could eat. He's about twice as long now

And yeah 69-70 is perfectly comfortable for him to sleep at night. I read a study (possible on this forum somewhere, I don't remember) where they determined a tempature drop at night resulted in Beardies with stronger immune systems.

As far as raising your basking temps it looks like you have the same zoomed double fixture I do. If so it is rated for up to 100w in each socket. It's going to be trial and error determining exactly how much wattage produces the temps you want.

As an example I have two 100w zoomed basking bulbs, and they just barely manage to get my basking area to 105. Bulb type, ambient temps, humidity, etc all play a role though so ultimately you just have to see what works.

Now that you've linked it, I've seen that decor piece before onlone. but seeing it in your enclosure really helps me visualize the size. I've got smaller stuff stacked up which is a pain. I wish my local petsmart carried them. They only stock the small stuff.

Please ask any questions you have. I haven't been doing this very long, but people with years of experience have been kind enough to donate thier time to help me and lots of other people here. I've learned a lot and know Beebz is a happier, healthier little guy because this forum exists.
