I wanted to know what some of you do to keep your dubia roaches healthy and ready to be fed-off. I feed my dubias endive because they seem to like it and it's hydrating. I've tried those hydrating gels but they usually get dirty and then smell bad. I also usually keep my dubias in the container they arrive in from dubiaroaches.com, I know some ppl have feeder bins and I'm thinking of trying that out. Sometimes I clean out the container if I've had them for a while. Also, what are the best things that I can feed dubias? How can I keep them well-hydrated, etc.?
ours are in a 30 quart bin with a lid. it gets cleaned once a week. they have dishes with roach chow and water crystals. at night they also get whatever salad our boy didn't eat. that gets removed from their bin in the morning.
I usually feed them what I have on hand for my dragon's salads. They get all of the stems and leftover salad items. They love things like squash and pumpkin in particular, but don't seem to be too picky.
When I started out, I used to keep the roaches in a small tupperware, but now keep feeders in a plastic shoebox or cricket keeper and a colony in an 18 gal tote. I feed them butternut squash, kale, red peppers, bananas, repashy bug burger, mango (just the seed after cutting it up), carrots (inside only?!), and apples. I think they eat most things, just make sure what you're feeding them is nothing that you can't feed your dragon.
For me, the roaches are way less picky than the dragon.
