I just took our BD outside for the first time since we got him a week ago. It's 75-80 F out, no wind. I took him out and set him on the sidewalk. He sat there for a bit, then freaked out when I got near him with a fresh dandelion (we don't spray them, ever), puffed out, black beard, hissed a little for the first time. Then he kinda took off and found some shade, but still had a black beard and looked stressed out. Is this normal? Is this something that will go away if we take him out for short periods? Or should we just never take him out of his habitat?
Thanks!
It should go away if you take him for short periods of time to let him get used to it.
My dragon did the same when he first went outside, so I took him out everyday
wrapped in a blanket so over time he got better with going outside so now he wants
to go all the time xD
The outside is SCARY. The ceiling is really, really, really high up and there's weird noises, smells and ... things. Lots of weird things. And birds - birds are terrifying.
I recommend a nice dragon leash and taking it one step at a time. Discovering dandelion leaves is a treat - nothing finer than FRESH salad
never put your beardie down when you first take them outside.
always hold them on you, otherwise they see you as a predator.
when you hold them outside they view you as something that will keep them safe.
