My baby beardy from Dachiu comes tomorrow! I'm so excited. I managed to get a 5'L x 2'W x 2'H handmade enclosure on craigslist that came with a lamp fixture, ceramic heat edmitter, and a probe thermostat all for $100. I got lucky, its all very nice. I'm super happy Pumpkin will have everything he needs. I can show pictures of him and everything tomorrow if anyone wants :)

Hey there, yes that's very exciting and it sounds like you got a great deal on the enclosure ! Definitely post lots of pics, if you can post pics of the inside of the enclosure now we can help you tweak anything that might need it before the baby arrives. A huge enclosure may need more than 1 heat bulb and did you mention a uvb bulb ? Be sure to post pics right away.
Dachiu is a great breeder, very well known and respected.

Hi yes i'll for sure post pictures of the enclosure once it gets brighter outside. From my research i could tell a large enclosure can be hard to get hot enough so i made sure to get two 50w incandescent heat bulbs plus the 100w ceramic heat edmitter. Ive been testing it for the past week and the basking area is around 102ºF, ambient air on warm side is 85ºF. Middle is 80ºF. and cool side is 71ºF. Humanity stays under 50% on both sides, usually 40%. I do indeed of course have a tube UVB. I'm using the reptisun t5 10.0 12% 22" 24w with a 2ft fixture from crazy eye creations. ,, My mom had a bearded dragon when i was a teen that i used to cuddle and take care of all the time, but ive never had my own. I had my own lepard gecko as a kid that grew up with me until she was 19 years old, but her care was obviously very different and now that im older ive learned much more about reptiles. I just hope im doing everything right for my buddy

O.K, looking forward to seeing it all, especially Pumpkin ! One little tip, when she arrives, open the box slowly and leave her in for a minute to let her eyes adjust going from total darkness to bright light. Remember what it's like to be in a pitch black room and then a light ois flipped on.

I'm using a reptisun t5 10.0 12% 22" 24w tube UVB. I wanted to mount the uvb on the inside in the middle but i need to make holes for the cords so for now its sitting on the top. The "mesh" top is made out of metal with larger holes (not big enough for a lizard to get through) so tbh i dont think it blocks much of the uvb. My partner is currently sleeping so i have to wait until i can turn any lights on but i'll post pictures as soon as i can

That is helpful, thank you !

Uvb on the top with large large- holed metal screen will be fine ! Just make sure the basking area is under it. Uvb's of to the side on the side of the top don't reach in to the enclosure well enough to provide enough.

(The moss on the tray is going to be replaced with a sand, soil, & moss mixture later today to let Pumpkin use while I supervise him. It's just there because I was using it for his cave & plants.)

Wow, that tank is awesome ! For $100 you got a mansion ! One thing to do since the baby needs to be close enough to the uvb is to attach the uvb underneath the screen. You can use long zipties or picture hanging or other type of wire. Once Pumkin is close to adult size it can possibly be set back on top.

Ikr! I got very lucky. Also yeah I got everything to hang it inside but I didn't realize I have to make holes in the wood big enough to fit the wire through because the hole for the probes isnt big enough for another wire to go through. Do you know anything I can use to easily cut small sections of wood with?

I don't understand what you mean, I see a lot of holes in that screen. I must be missing something.
O.K, it came to me lol, yes you can use a drill to make a hole big enough in the wood.

Hey! I'm planning on ordering a 4x2x2 for my next beardie but I'm worried about lighting. I have a UVA and a UVB but they are small (the UVA just being a bulb and the UVB being 12 ish inches?) My house is drafty so I need a strong light that puts off quite a good amount of heat, any suggestions?
cookie event at my library today, quite fun! Made some bracelets for my comrades too, to give them at church in the morning. Got a busy day tomorrow even though I’m off work… i go back on tuesday so atleast I’ll have 2 days off to rewind….then back to hell lol
The head tilt tho! Aaaahhh
