After I turned the light off today, my female beardie acted as if she wanted to get out of the terrarium. I opened the door and she darted out of the tank and ran to the window and fell asleep under our curtain on the tile floor. After putting her back in the tank, she continued to act as if she wanted out. I am a new bearded dragon owner and I am trying to figure their behavior out. Why did she do this?
Hi, welcome to the forum. Do you have any lights or heat on her tank at night? If not, is there anything that might be disturbing her sleep like a TV, lights on in the room, etc?
Sometimes they do this because they just can't find a comfortable place to sleep (if all the bright lights are already turned off).
If you just got her, then give her a while to get used to her surroundings. You could always try taking her out at bedtime, wrapping her in a blanket (what we call a beardie burrito lol) and holding her until she goes to sleep, then gently set her in the tank so she doesn't wake up. I had to do this for my beardie quite a few times when he was feeling restless.
Thank you guys so much for your responses. I will simply give her more time to adjust to her new environment ... And if that won't work, I will definitely try the "beardie-burrito"
