I rescued ten common goldfish last night (they were used as centerpieces at a banquet I attended) . I was holding Custard while looking at the fish, and he hopped off of my hand and onto the table and started licking the glass of the fish bowl to get at them. It was so cute and funny! I wonder if beardies can eat fish? I'm not even considering feeding them to him, but I'm just curious. Being desert animals, I would think that aquatic species would not appeal to them. Maybe he was just inspecting them, because they were moving. Like he does to my computer sreen when I move my mouse around.
Also, kind of unrelated, but I saved these fish thinking that I could properly care for them. Unfortunately, I just learned that only one goldfish needs a ten gallon tank. I want to keep two of them, but I need to find homes for the others. Does anyone have any experience with finding good homes for animals? I posted a "free" ad on craigslist and also asked friends and family if they would want some for ponds or as pets.
I think it is the movement that makes them curious/attracted to something. Mine did the same thing when he saw a beta fish at my parent's house. Also, sometimes in the morning, I will put my finger in his greens and wiggle them around which really catches his attention- he will start looking over at the greens when I do that and then when I am leaving for work he will be over checking them out.
A few years ago we had a member whose dragon dove into their koi pond and ate a small fish. I suppose being a opportunistic feeder, they eat whatever they can in the wild.
