We were giving one of our beardies a bath in the bathroom sink. The stopper wasnt closed exactly all the way and he ended up getting a toe nail stuck in it and the nail ripped off. The "quick" is still there and it doesnt seem to be bothering him at all. Hes still running around all over my bed. It was bleeding a little bit so we cleaned it and put some neosporin on it. Its not bleeding anymore. Does anyone have any experience with this. We feel so bad that this happened and just wanna do all we can for him. Thanks
OUCH! That looked like it'd hurt.
If what's left is truly the quick, you'll want to keep the toe as clean as possible to avoid an infection. The only thing that comes to mind at the moment is to put a bandage on it until the nail grows back (not certain if it would/wouldn't) or the quick dies off.
Don't beat yourself over this. Accidents happen, unfortunately.
ouch! poor thing! IDK maybe a liquid bandage? I would call a vet and ask. I'm sure they'd be happy to tell you over the phone what they would advise for no charge.
Awww, poor guy! Like they said, though, these things happen. One of my iguanas did that when he had some out time. I just put some betadine on it and made sure his environment was super clean. Eventually the quick part fell off too, and now the nail is growing back quite nicely.
A bandage isn't a bad idea, just make sure that it's not too tight that it strangles his toe!
