Re: the black tail tip.
I remember when Redrock's tail would get dark, just the tip of it or 1/2 of the tail at the tip, usually her tail would start shedding a week or so later (she was an adult then so the shed took longer).
How is your boy doing? If you are hearing popping or crackling noises, I would say he could have the beginnings of a respiratory infection yes. Doublecheck your basking temps, again to ensure they are optimal.
Also, if you can, keep his tank just a little warmer at night until he gets to feeling better. Use a ceramic heat emitter or a heating pad with a towel in between him & the heating pad.
Is his beard darkened?
Thanks so much everyone!
Tracie, I have a zoo-med heating pad on the side of his tank, lately when he sleeps he stays on this side because the glass is warm. At night ive been making sure i keep the heat up in my house so its closer to 70-75* at night instead of 65-70* (the radioator/heat thing is right on the floor near his tank) I keep checking the basking temps with my fathers temp gun. and the hot side is 107* as of right now, cool side 80*. Today, his beard is actual a little lighter, closer to being back how it normally is. But the tip of his tail is still very dark. His eyes are still very sunken and its not improving at all even from all the fluids and baths hes been given. I dont even see how he got this dehydrated in the first place bcause i always gave him warm baths and misted him. Also i would give him water by mouth once or twice a week along with bathing. So im a little confused When do you think i can suspect him to become fully hydrated and start looking a little better? Im also giving him his meds for calcium and parasites (day 2). He still hasnt pooped, poor little guy maybe is this why he is in pain and so uncomfortable?
Well everyone i rushed Izzy to the vet just about an hour ago. I got home and he was barely breathing, had vomited again, and his enitre body was black. He was curled up in the corner of his tank hunched over and looked like he was in a lot of pain. I had my uncle, who is a cop, escort me there so i could make it faster. Im waiting to hear whats going on, hopefully its not bad news. They were giving him extra oxygen before i left and then told me i had gotten there just in time before losing him. I really hope my little guy makes it I would be so devastated if he didnt and so would my family..
How old is your beardie? The symptoms sound like old age to me. Lenny my first beardie was eight when he began deteriotating. I hope they were able to help him at the vets office. Good luck
He is just under 2 years old so it cant be age :? But i havent gotten a call from the vet yet, hopefully i will soon, but i guess no news is good news sometimes...im praying for him poor little guy
Okay so he is only two, figured I should ask. Aww poor guy only two and having such problems; luckily they are resilient so hopefully he will make it and make a fast recovery.
My little baby passed away at the vet a few hours ago. I was on my way to take him to an emergency center for surgery and i got a call on the way there. Im so devastated i cant believe it
I'm sooo sorry! I know how devistating this loss is, especially when they are that young. I just lost my girl a couple of months ago and she was 2 years and 3 months old. It seems like they should still be with us. Just be glad you had her for as long as you did.
Oh I am so sorry!! That is extremely devastating & so young, too. Did they give any indication at all? Perhaps it was complications from parasites. Was any bloodwork done, or do you know?
I am so sorry for your loss. If you need anything at all, let us know we are here for you.
I am so sorry for your loss. Please accept my condolences. I just lost my big snow beardie male named "Bob" a couple months ago. I know exactly how you feel. Bob died before I could make it in for my appointment. He got sick on the weekend.
Thanks so much for the support everyone. Somehow i still have a feeling that this vet was not very experienced with reptiles or maybe there would have been a better chance for him. But she was the only one in my area, and i could tell he was suffering badly so i rushed him there. But she seemed to think that whatever was blocking him from going to the bathroom was the problem. He seemed to have trouble breathing because all the blockage was pushing up on his lungs :?: those were her only thoughts. I still dont know what the blockage could have been from, i usually always hand fed him and gave him very small pieces. Thanks so much for everyones help through this though...maybe i will get another one soon but he wont be the same thats for sure =/
