My 2 month old beardie, James, really likes to explore the house when I supervise him. Usually I take him to the bathroom where there's no place he can crawl under, and just let him run around and climb things. But the thing is he hates being picked up out of his cage in order to get to the bathroom. As soon as I put my hand in his cage he bolts away from it.
So for the past week I haven't picked him up at all. When I do stick my hand in his cage, it's only to feed him or pet his back, but he still doesn't like my hand lol.
What should I do differently? Should I not pick him up for weeks and see if he calms down, or is this normal for young beardies? Or should young beardies not leave their cage at all?
in my opinion (im not an expert by any means) if he is not being aggressive ie: biting, puffing up when you try to pick him up then you should pick him up more often. the more you hold him the more he will get used to it, you picking him up once a week isnt enough for him to get used to being handled. When i went through this with my little guy tatsu i would pick him up and let him out of the tank for 10 minuets 4-5 times a day. after 2-3 weeks of this he was completely ok with it and now has no problem being handled. ive also noticed (at least with my guys) that when there shedding they tend to be a little grumpier. hope that helps.
