help
i have a 13 inch male
i was feeding him blueberries and he saw something else dark colored on my desk and went for it
he swallowed it and seems fine right now
im pretty sure it was a small jagged piece of plastic, about 3/8"x1/8"x1/8
i dont have a vet and i can't find one in Boston
advice please?
he seems fine, and i fed him some greens with a LOT of calcium a minute ago
i read the calcium helps them digest and get over impaction
applesauce and olive oil also help them have a BM along with extra baths.
as long as he continues to eat and poop i wouldn't worry to much. you can go poo divin if you want, but if he eats and poos he's ok, if he stops pooping then you will need to find a vet.
a vet in boston that does exotics according to their website is
Middlesex County Animal Hospital
330 Boston Rd # A
North Billerica, MA 01862
(978) 600-0444
he pooped this morning, without any help from me
there wasn't anything hard in it
what does that mean?
and i left him a salad and some applesauce in in tank
How large was the piece of plastic? That absolutely needs to come out. Remember, their digestive systems are slower than mammals' are so it may take a few days to pass. It can't stay in there, because it could do some damage if it is jagged as you mentioned.
I would do the recommended soft foods, daily, no feeders at all right now, along with a couple of drops of olive or mineral oil. You can add some canned pumpkin in with the mix, as well to give some fiber.
Keep him well hydrated also. Let us know how he is doing.
ok update
he pooped today, not too much tho
but i'd credit that to the fact that his salad had dried up so he didnt get much to eat
i just fed him two pieces of collards with olive oil and two with applesauce
he seems perfectly fine and happy
i'm hoping that i was wrong and he didnt eat anything (worried parents dream, right?)
i continually feel his belly and i feel nothing pokey or out of place
I'm gonna stick to the salad with applesauce and oil for a couple of days and if he continues to poop normally and theres no behavior change, does that mean i'm in the clear?
plus i'll keep checking the poop, see if anythings in there
anything else i can do?
something i missed?
I think I would call a vet and see what an x-ray would cost, just to see if it's in there. but if he's pooping and acting normal you most likely will be in the clear unless something changes, remember it takes a few days for food to go from mouth to vent in a lizard.
update
thank you guys so much your your help
hes been eating and acting fine, but hes pretty skittish, which i can accredit to the fact that he is shedding
but i have been checking his poop to see if he passed it
and i found that stuff seems to be going thru undigested
i started giving him little phoenix worms, and i found a whole one in his stool
also i have no car, and none of the vets around here charge reasonable prices
this is so so stressful
im gonna go give him a bath while i wait to hear from you guys
