Flip (he flips over alot because of his curvature of his spine) is a few years old and has very severe mbd. I have had him3 months. Tremors stopped with liquid calcionate. He struggles to eat so he gets baby food to supplement him and he has been improving and eating better on his own. then yesterday am he aspirated baby food and vomited and became very black and died. I managed to get him back. This am he is awake and has some mucus/dried spit around the corners of his mouth. Vet at school recommended baytril to prevent/control pneumonia. He did alot of open mouth gasping yesterday too. Is baytril the way to go? What is correct dose? mg/kg? Strength? I wil be telling my vet what I need. They don't know alot....Thank you I don't know how much longer I'm gonna have him but he IS quite the fighter.
I am currently giving mine baytril because of a skin infection and she is around 6-7 months old. You dont want to use too much and I use mine just once a day and give her about 0.3ml of it. It probably depends on the age and or size. I hope he does better sounds awful. You should post a photo of him so we can get a better idea of what hes going through.
Oh poor fellow! I am sorry he is having trouble.
Baytril or Fortaz/Fortum works well for pneumonia. If you go the Baytril route, you can get the 2.27% or 5% solution. If you need help dosing it just let me know. The normal dose is 5 or 10mg/kg of body weight with a duration of 7-12 days, on average.
Flip is still flippin. He is not doing good. He's black and vomited today again and mucus in his mouth . Diarrhea too. Drank alot of water and gave him subq fluids. Baytril IM 2.27 .3ml Awake and more alert this am. Also giving him acidpholiz and nutrical and frequent baths. At this point I'm not sure I want to keep doing this. He is so crooked I worry about the quality of life if he does make it. I noticed a red spot at the joints if his jaw. But he has more will to live than any other creature I've ever seen. If we lose him this will be the third year in a row we have lost an animal. Last year my cat passed away suddenly on Christmas eve.
That is too bad. He is most likely not feeling well due to the injections of Baytril. How often will you be giving the Baytril?
Will he take much food from a syringe or dropper?
Is he still on the liquid calcium also? If you can get him stabilized, if his calcium levels can become more normal, he could have a good qualify life with great care with you.
He's getting inj once a day. I am giving him water 1cc( by mouth) at time like every 2 hours. How much calcium can I give him per day? I have been giving him 3cc 1x day (calcionate syrup). I give him little bits of babyfood and baths all day long he really liked it when i put him in the bathroom while my daughter took a shower! He perked up abit Do you think there is the smallest Chance he will make it? I will continue as long as it takes to get him thru this. I just worry that he's just too twisted to be without pain.
What concentration/strength is your calcionate? How much does your dragon weigh & I can check the dose of it for you. The 3cc's sounds quite high actually.
So, he loved his shower today? That is great, it should have hydrated him some. How much baby food do you give?
There is always a chance he will pull through absolutely, it just depends on how advanced the neurological damage is as to how his quality of life will be.
