i have a little girl thats around 7-10 months old and she has just started behaving a little weird. shes constantly glass dancing/ clawing and the plexi to get out and if i open the door she goes straight to the sliding glass door and does the same or tries to get either under the stove, fridge, or tv stand. she also seems a little aggresive which is never like her. she doesnt want to be held at all and every now and then she shows her beard or opens her mouth when you reach down for her (mainly when you stop her from getting under something) never tried to actually bite or anything and even when her mouth is opened at you she closes it when you get closer.
shes eating a bit less than normal shes big and healthy and never really had this issue before and loves to be handled normally and still does now when shes calm lol. after some reading i made a lay box just incase thats the issue but so far has no interest in it (other than tasting it lol) she has all the correct bulbs (reptisun 10 and basking bulb) and eats kale and other greens normally along with super worms all dusted 3-4 times a week.
I was going to suggest making a laybox, in case she is developing infertile eggs which at her age is a possibility.
Which UVB light are you using, what brand is it & is it a tube bulb or a compact/coil light?
How often do you use calcium supplementation for her, dusted on her insects 3-4 times per week? You could increase that to 5 times per week, in case she is developing eggs.
Do you have any pictures of her also?
Go ahead & attempt to pick her up, once she gets calmed down & if she still continues to open her mouth at you just get a favorite food of hers & hand feed it to her. That usually helps out.
we have the reptisun 10.0 tube and dust her food 3-4 times a week the only difference ive noticed other than her temperament is her pooing is a little off and noticed in her bath today that her urate was much thinner and longer then the normal chunk it usually is
She looks really good, great colors on her! I love the natural colors.
Is she excreting urates more often then? Is the urate a pinkish tinge at all?
Many times prior to laying, they will excrete more urates, multiple times per day & the urates will have a slight pinkish color due to hormonal changes.
Is she still eating quite a bit?
Great, the Reptisun 10 tube bulb is a good bulb, do you have it at or around 6-8 inches from her?
You could increase the dusting to 5 times per week right now until you figure out whether or not she has eggs. Let us know how she is doing.
ive increased her dusting to everyday pretty much, the bulb is 6 inches from her level but no no more urates than normal and whats starting to worry me is shes barely pooping at all now maybe once every other day and only about the size of a nickle and very runny and nothing even after a 30 minute soak in a warm bath. i have been trying to find a vet but havent had any luck with one that is remotely close that still treats reptiles (called 6 so far that no longer have a reptile dr) so im on a search for that if i end up having to get her to a vet. but other then the very little pooing and slight attitude lol shes happy and active like always.
Hi there....I doubt she's impacted and agree with Tracie that there's a possibility she may have eggs. But you can be proactive in getting her to poo if you're worried but I would not use mineral oil....it's a petroleum by product of making gasoline. There are MUCH safer things to use like veg.oil, canned pumpkin, baby food prunes ans squash as well as applesauce and a bit of honey. All are natural laxatives.
sorry for the very late update lol but about a week after all of the she just basically stopped all the weird behavior and is back to her normal self again (just believe shes starting to brumate, has gotten lazy lol). we can hold her with no problems, she runs around the house and interacts just like before.
she back to eating like normal also so thanks again to everyones advice and ill be sure to update more often lol
