hi all! so i got chompy as a baby (4 weeks) and i had my cat mimi then (still do). mimi is a very laid back cat and never played with chompy except for a few times but chompy would bite her nose or something to warn her and she would stop. she hasn’t played with him at all in months and they get along super well- chompy will randomly run up and jump on her or “cuddle” when he’s out of his tank. they’re comfy w each other and mimi doesn’t seem to stress or scare chompy at all. so essentially, he grew up with a cat and got along very well with her.
anyways- to the problem. we just got a new kitten and she definitely sees chompy as a toy. the thing i’m worried about is chompy doesn’t seem scared of her either- and i’m worried she’ll end up scratching him or something because he won’t run away or bite her. he never had to run from mimi so is there any way he just never got a negative association with cats so now he’s not scared of the kitten?
There are a good amount of people on here who have cats or dogs & keep them successfully with limited exposure. It sounds
like you have done a very good job exercising caution with them both to avoid an accident between them.
The best advice I can give if you want to keep them both is to continue being very careful in the exposure between the two so you
can avoid disaster.
