Bearded trying to eat bark

We just got our bearded dragon a few days ago and he’s maybe 2 months old and about 7 inches long. I researched about taking tree branches from outside and found that they’re all pretty safe once baked except for pine or cedar. So I did this and our bearded dragon started climbing and then I noticed it was trying to eat some of the bark. Is it teething? Vitamin deficiency? What’s going on?

Beardies will try to eat just about anything. I had two that were clutch mates that would try to eat rocks. If the bark is scaley and peeling that might be all it takes to catch your beardies attention, I would either peel it off or remove it. It could cause impaction if he actually consumes it.

Bearded dragons are not capable of teething, so this behavior may be related to curiosity or a possible vitamin/mineral deficiency. It is best to review the diet and ensure adequate supplementation. gunspin

Hello,

They do love licking their environment to see what it is. Some will bite at logs, etc too. If it becomes
a consistent issue then he may be deficient in calcium or vitamins of some type.

a poem by AHBD (THANK YOU SO MUCH! I LOVE IT!)

Sir Henry the dragon
Looking for his dragon girl
Ventures out in to the wide world
His hopes are up but as you can see
There is no dragon girl for Sir Henry
A light bulb goes off and he takes mom aside
Could you perchance get me a mail order bride ?
