Hi all. My bearded dragons two smallest toes are red and swollen. Only only of them is redish, this one is more swollen than the other. Ive been using betadine in his bath since it's arrived and the vet told me to use a triple antibiotic cream on it. Feeders are taken out asap after feeding and his decorations are kept to a minimal since ive recongized the swelling (about 2 weeks ago). It hasnt gotten any better or worse. He is housed alone and his uvb is a tube reptisun 10.0 t5 22". His substrate is tile. He eats his greens and feeders daily and poops daily too. He also gets baths 3 times a week. Ive tried getting pictures but my camera is horrible and wont focus. On his right foot where the swelling is he is missing all claws except for two but theyre really short and dont look like his other claws. Its been like this since ive gotten him off of a sell and swap page when he was half a year old. He has full mobility in his legs and is not lethargic whatsoever. when the toes are touched it seems to hurt him. Help?
Are the toes gray like they are about to shed? Shedding sometimes causes swelling on fingers and toes but goes away after the shed is done. If they look more wounded/damaged then keeping them clean and applying the antibiotic cream as your vet said is a good idea.
Not necessarily even retained shed but just an upcoming one. Keep a close eye on it for normal shed behavior vs wounded/damaged looking toes. Shed shouldn't require much (if any) intervention but damage will require action as mentioned.
