I have a bearded dragon named MeKoo and she's pretty famous on TikTok, I loved her so much and she was my wife's baby, I've been devastated for the last few days so much so I had a bad attack of atrial fibrillation that had me out of work for a few days. the reason I'm beating myself up is that I keep thinking there was something more I could have done, she was just fine before we went on vacation for 2 days but when we came back she had lost her appetite, she was gravid so she's done this before but I said ok I'll take her to the vet tomorrow to make sure she's ok
I get home from work and she looks so bad, her eyes were sunken in and she was very pale, I call my normal Vet Alloha animal hospital here in Las Vegas, but they couldn't take an emergency visit so they sent me to Lone mountain animal hospital. When I went in they took MeKoo from me and put me in a waiting room she came back with a vial of blood and said we drained this from her abdomen, we can tell she was carrying eggs and needed to do emergency surgery because one of her egg follicles might have ruptured. I consented and paid 1800 dollars and even checked the box that consented for them to charge me whatever they needed to save her life, she comes back a few minutes later and said I did a blood test and her blood sugar is 500 and she has anemia of 10 and won't make it. I had to make the decision to euthanize her.
This is what's messing me up, I kept that vial of blood and tested it with my glucometer and it's continually tested 247-250, I keep thinking I killed my dragon and since it was late in the day maybe they just wanted to go home or she wasn't confident in her abilities to save my dragon. on the other hand, I gave them an open check and 1800 dollars which they refunded me so I guess they could have bent me over and taken me for a lot of money and just said she died during surgery.
Has anyone else been through this kind of anguish after putting your dragon down, I keep thinking it wasn't cancer and just a ruptured follicle and she could have been saved, I loved MeKoo so much and she was a very funny and special dragon.
Here's a video of how she looked before I took her to the vet
