When I got my bearded dragon, I was told that in the wild they can live around 15 years; but, in captivity, the bearded dragon's have a shorter lifespan, usually 5 years at most.
I would like to know from those who have had bearded dragons longer than I have, what is your personal experience?
Thank you both for replying. When the guy told me that, I thought it was strange; because, animals that are considered prey animals tend to live longer if they can successfully transition from being in the wild to being in somebody's home away from natural predators.
Was it a pet store employee or a breeder? Most pet store employees know little to nothing about the animals they sell.
If it was a breeder, shame on him for passing on bad info.
Gail, it was an employee. As far as I know there is no breeders in my area and I'm not sure if there is any in the state. The manager recommended that I join a Facebook group; but, I found this site instead and signed up. I have asked some questions and so far, they have all been answered. That tells me that the site isn't dead.
I am new to Bearded Dragons; and, I have done research on my own. But, this site has so much information on it. The people who have replied to my questions seem so willing to help.
My town has two pet shops. One is part of a chain called PetSense and the other is locally owned not part of a chain. I know that retail stores whether they are part of a chain or locally owned are in business to make sales. I don't necessarily want to buy things that I don't need or are not appropriate.
