bearded dragon jumped onto hard wood

I took my beaded dragon out for some time in the window for natural light. He was on my shoulder and I was holding onto him with one hand as I was walking to the window when his beard turned black and he started squirming out of my hand and jumped onto the hard wood floor. He started running so I went to grab him before he made it to under the couch I picked him up then he squirmed out of my hand again before I could fully grasp him onto my couch that is about 3 feet tall and jumped off onto the floor again. I feel absolutely horrible because he’s been in my life since he was a month old and he is about 3 now and has never really done anything like this. His beard is fading now and I put some mealworms in to see if he would eat and he ate all 3 I put in there almost immediately. I don’t see any visible signs of injury, but I am still concerned about my little guy dean.

Keep an eye on him, if he is in pain from an injury he'll most likely black beard. If he continues to black beard a trip to the vet may be in order.

It’s been a little bit and the black beard is gone it’s just grey now. I’ve noticed he has been stressed lately and that fall gave him a good scare most likely. Could that be the reason for his remaining grey beard.

Please go over your lighting setup. Usually with young dragons issues with the setup is what we see here. Also be aware of any environmental changes that you might haved overlooked, a new puppy 🐶, kitten 😸 new stereo or tv that's now more close. Sometimes the smallest thing can stress them.

Hello,

Did he possibly see a large predatory bird outside of the window? That is
a very common thing that happens which can really scare them to the point
that they will run or jump to get to cover.
I would keep an eye on him as to any odd changes that might occur such as
sudden loss of appetite, constant black beard, blood in stool, lethargic behavior or inability to walk or move much on his own. If he seems to be going back to normal, & eating then he is most likely going to be fine.

I'd add to this: changes that are something in our face, like: sunglasses, generally getting new glasses, using make-up, changing the hair color, wearing clothes in a color not used before. "On the shoulder", as it was mentioned, is near the face... and he might have seen something like that now more close-up.
I'd rather say a new larger pet is a change super obvious to many people, but the above we usually don't register as that "big", especially when we maybe used any of that before, but just not when the dragon was present. For an animal that uses color to communicate this is, however, a big confusing change.

Also, especially near the window, I can imagine that he saw a bird very much. My dragon was very scared of them (we have vultures here) in the beginning, but as they are a regular occurrence (we have really tons of them, similar to other cities having pigeons), he now got somewhat used to them. Still, I would not guarantee he's fine with them so I use a harness for my dragon when being on the balcony or near an open window with him.

that is a possibility. He has seemed very skittish and angry with me lately so i’ve been leaving him be when he shows that to me.

I have him in an about a 130 gallon set up with his natural habitat stuff to make him feel more comfortable. The light is a basking lamp and also a lamp to simulate natural lighting and temperature. I don’t know the exact names of these lamps because i threw the boxes away. He is on a timed schedule to his day lamps shut off and his night lamp turns on around sundown and vice versa around sun up. He is fed regularly with a mixed diet. I mostly feed him mealworms and occasionally wax worms for a gutter day. sometimes crickets as well. I let him out to run around the room.It is a very well kept room with nothing he could get into or hurt himself on I clean it very regularly to avoid that stuff. I also place his treats or dry food around the room so he is getting the exercise and mind enrichment he needs to stay happy. He seems perfectly happy and healthy since the accident but i have notice he gets black beard off and on like when he wants to get out and i won’t open the enclosure or when I go near him every once and awhile. When he does that i stay away from him and give him space so i don’t influence him negatively or make him scared of me. I let him go back into his enclosure on his own instead of trying to grab him and put him back. I clean up his fecal when he does it because i know they like clean environments. I have no new animals and my dog is not aloud near or in this room.

If you can't remember the names, please post a photo that clearly shows your different lights. They need a long tube uvb, it is essential. The basking can be any clear white incandescent it's only for heat and ambient light. The night time heat should be a heat emitter. Absolutely no colored bulbs. Beardies need dark when they sleep. Colored bulbs can cause eye issues as well.

Hello,

Definitely let us know the brands of the UVB lighting so we can be sure
it is the correct brand. The names should be stamped on the base of
the bulb, most of the time.
They do tend to get moody when they would like to get out of their tanks,
so blackbearding, bobbing are displaying behavior to get your attention!
His diet sounds really varied so he should be getting plenty of nutrition.
So, he is doing well then, no odd behavior thus far?

a poem by AHBD (THANK YOU SO MUCH! I LOVE IT!)

Sir Henry the dragon
Looking for his dragon girl
Ventures out in to the wide world
His hopes are up but as you can see
There is no dragon girl for Sir Henry
A light bulb goes off and he takes mom aside
Could you perchance get me a mail order bride ?

Hey! We’re the same age! That’s cool!
Hi there a little update we went from a 50 watt heat lamp to a 100 watt basking halogen heat lamp hahaha I saw some comments about it being so close so I made sure to put it a ruler away from her
Has anyone seen this before? Something in the corner of his mouth
