Hi everyone! My first post here and I have a question for you guys and gals. I have a baby bearded dragon and he or she is 6 1/2 inches long and had him for two weeks about. I'm using a 50 watt basking light and a 10.0 reptisun uvb light. I feed him 3 times a day crickets (small)
and give him greens once in the morning. I spray his cricket in the morning with calcium and spray the multi vitamin 2 or 3 times a week. His lights stay on for 12 hours and I use a dark heating bulb for night and cover the front of his cage so he can get his sleep. Also I use carpet for his substrate.
My question is the little guy seems to shut his eyes a lot during the day and I'm not sure if this is normal. He is eating just find and seems to be getting bigger. I was using a compact UVB light in the beginning and read that there not good for beardies so I got him the best light that petsmart had. Is this normal for baby beardies to shut there eyes a lot, and he does it most when he is basking. Thanks!
Hi there. Sounds like the little dude is tired. He needs complete darkness at night and he needs to cool down also. So as long as it does not get below 65 in your house he will be OK with out a heat source at night. If you do need a heat source at night use a ceremic heat emitter. They just give off heat and no light.

Thanks for the reply destiny! Do you think I should cut his light hours back to 10 so he can get caught up on sleep. I will unplug his night light tonight and see if that helps. Thanks bud!
Hi yeah I leave the lights on 12 hrs on and off, but now that's summers here my beardies sit in there own windows with them open and get their heat and sun. Also what reptisun 10.0 do you have ? The only 2 that are recommend on here is the reptisun 10.0 Tube or the Arcadia 12%. So if you have the wrong uvb that also may cause him to close his eyes.

I have the Reptisun 10.0 uvb 24" 18 watts, Its the long tube. So your beardies sit in the window for the sunlight? sounds cool. I took away the heat/night lamp and have been covering his tank so no light gets in. Its strange that he sleeps in his basking spot but last night he slept on the carpet in the corner of the tank. he has been very active today and running around his tank. I only take him out once or twice a day for about 5 minutes since he is still adapting to his new home. He will just chill on m shoulder for the most part and when he tries to run off I just put him back in his tank. Also he pooped on me today for the first time lol!
