Hello, my bearded dragon sometimes black beards when she poops. This time it happened again. Her beard is still dark after it. I’m not sure if she will poop again, but it looks like she will. Her previous two poops before this one were fine but watery. She acted normal before them. Almost two weeks ago she had a similar situation. She had a black beard and pooped twice. shes Had black beards before with the poops. It normally returns to normal after she poops. This time it hasn’t yet. She doesn’t want her greens. She will eat crickets. She wanted her greens this morning. Her beard went bright after she pooped. But, returned dark within 5 minutes. The urate seemed very hard. And dry. Her poop was a bit formed. And lots of water. I have tried lowering the calcium. The only thing I can think of is that I might put too much calcium on. She has a tube uvb bulb. It was recently changed. I’ve made two diet changes between this poop and the last poop. I put on orange cube cricket food. And gave her a very small amount of sweet potato. I’m very confused what is happening. I feel like if it was the amount of calcium it would have been fixed by now. Can anyone help me figure out what is causing this?

UPDATE: she pooped again. So far she still doesn’t want greens and her beard is still dark. This poop looked fine. But, seemed like a pain to get out. A lot of wiggling.I’m not sure why her beard is still dark? It looks darker than before.
Now her eyes keeps closing and seem semi-closed too. Kinda tired looking.

UPDATE 2: her beard seems to have gotten better. I’m not sure how permanent that is. She still doesn’t want her greens. The hard urates seems to happen when she has two poops in a row. Like all of the calcium goes to the first poop. Making it too much. I would not know how to fix that. Does anyone know if there is a liquid calcium with d3? I have one without d3. But, I cannot find one with it. Maybe that would help?

Update 3: the beard isn’t as bad as before yet. But, it isn’t the brightest right now either. I was thinking maybe if there is now liquid d3. Give all liquid calcium. And then, for her vitamins. One day of herptivite. And another day of Reptivite with d3. Im not sure if that would work. I just looked at the calcium instructions. Based on them, I think I could have been dusting it too much. It seems i should be giving about 1/8 tsp a day on the greens. If I also give it on her crickets. I feel like my light dusting probably ended up being more than that. So, maybe i should try fixing that.

UPDATE 4: she pooped a third time. This was just a really watery urate. No poop. There might be poop soon to come. But, not as far as I know at the moment.

UPDATE 5: her beard is a bit brighter again. Right now it is good. But, sometimes it is brown. She wanted a green. So hopefully she is feeling a bit better. I also saw multivitamins can also cause hard urates. Is two times a week a good amount? Or is that too much?

Hello,

Could she be developing eggs possibly, what is her age again?
Are her urates still off color?
It sounds like her stool has gotten better though. I don't know
why her beard gets dark before she goes to the bathroom. Does she seem to strain at all?

I think her urate was white today. Sometimes they have bit a a peach hue. But, they have had a peach hue for months. Her age is 5. She had eggs in December. Her weight is 344 which is exactly the same as it was in April. She doesn’t seem to strain. Maybe one of the poops she wiggled in a couple of different places before she went. That was within like 5 minutes though. The other times she went right away. Thank you very much!!!

Today she pooped 3 times. One was a very normal looking poop. Her beard was grey. One was really small and the urate was liquidy. Her beard was good. The other was just a liquidy urate. Her beard was a light brown. All the urates were white.

Hello,

Ok, everything sounds like it is pretty normal. Her urates are white now which is a big improvement.
Sometimes their urates will change color prior to laying eggs due to hormonal changes, but, not always.
If she isn't exhibiting egg laying behavior then it most likely isn't egg development.
At least she seems to be doing well right now.

Hello,

You are very welcome. Keep us posted on her progress.

Today she pooped 3 times. I didn’t get to see the beards. One was very small. The other two looked ok. Urates were a little liquidy. But, the poops were pretty normal. She has still been running around. Sometimes with brown beards. When she is done running around she tends to get a darker beard while basking. She has also been head bobbing at me a lot. About 5-7 times today. Everything is about the same. More head bobbing than before, but she has also had more opportunities to head Bob at me.

Hello,

She is head bobbing at you now? It sounds a lot like hormonal behavior, they love to bob & push out
their beards.
Overall she is active so if she is eating regularly I would say she's doing well right now!

Hello, I think she had a hard urate again. It was harder to squish. And had a powdery texture. It was moist though. A small part of the urate was definitely ok. There was also some urate sorta wrapping around the poop a little. That urate was liquidy. The poop was very big. The urate was more normal sized. The last time she pooped was 2 days ago. Before this poop she has been pooping multiple times a day and the urate has been fine and actually a lot of the times it was liquidy. The last time she had a similar urate she hadn’t pooped for 8 days. The poops looked very similar. They were big with a more normal sized urate. The urate was t hard again until now. Could it be because the poop was very big compared to the urate? The poop was an hour old when I saw it but it was in the cool side. So, I don’t think it affected the hardness. Should I wait and see the next one? Should I swap her to a liquid calcium? If so, how much would I give her? Her weight is 344.

Hello,

It is a possibility that she is having trouble with powders, some tend to. You can definitely try a
liquid calcium to see if that helps out with the hardness of the urates for awhile. Do you already
have a liquid calcium on hand for her?
It can affect the dryness of the urate if it sits out under the light, etc for awhile. I wouldn't worry
too much because their stools & the urates do fluctuate quite a bit.
It sounds like she is doing well overall & eating a lot, too.

Hello, I do have a liquid urate on hand. I’m just not too sure how much to give her. I always give too much when I follow the labels directions. She pooped today and the urate was good. So, I think I will hold off on giving her a liquid calcium. If that’s an ok idea. Thank you very much!

Hello,

That will be fine. Those instructions are pretty vague & would be hard to dose individually for a single
dragon. If you do happen to decide to give some, I would err on the side of caution & dose very
conservatively. So, just give a few drops several times per week. You can dilute it with water or a juice
if you would like.

Hello , im still figureing out this platform,
So violet laid eggs, weeks ago, she was doing very well , in the last 3 to 4 days her poop was more than runny . Haven't changed much in her diet , an appetite is very good. Should I be considering a parasites remedy as she does get bloated as soon as she starts to eat.
My baby beardie likes to sit in their water bowl. I'm curious on whether it would hurt them or not.
Any thoughts an knowledge will be helpful. Thank u
Im needing some questions answered about my female beardeddragon, I honestly have no idea on age , she was a recuse, as ive had a couple in my life an have experience.
