Hello, my name is Caleb and my beardie a name is Rex. Rex is roughly two years, and I’ve had him for a year. He’s actually missing one of his hands or legs from an incident from an old owner.
Now Rex eats like a pig, gets excited for feeding and will even climb the glass for food. One problem, I struggle to feed him veges, since he ignores them. I can feed him bananas and grapes, but only when he feels like eating it. Rex also sleeps a lot, after I feed him he gets in his hide and stays there, this was happening when I was at school and I was told it’s cause he’s bored. I took his hide out and he started to bask but just today he started to climb under his substrate and sleep. He eats but to get him to poo is a struggle since he wont bask. I try to hold him a lot, I plan on starting a routine of holding him everyday for an hour and bathing him for 15-20 minutes until he poos. I just need to know what is wrong with him. Help
I think that Rex is going into brumation. I'm not an expert but there is an article on it in the Care Sheets and Articles tab next to the Discussion Forums one. Hope this helps.
Has his appetite decreased? The hiding may be due to brumation but could be an environmental factor such as temperature being off or something like that. I would track his weight and if that's stable, just let him be so he can sleep if he wants to. Here is the brumation article mentioned in the previous post. Does this sound like what's going on? https://www.beardeddragon.org/articles/brumation/
