Hello,

That is great news he is starting to improve & using his leg a bit. At least he ate a dubia on his own,
since he hadn't done that in awhile. Continue to encourage his eating
of greens & vegetation. It sounds like he is feeling a lot better though & is more active.
The leg color does look normal & everything is healing up nicely too.
We are all pulling for him!

Incredibly brought him outside yesterday to just sit on my lap in the sun and he started running up and down my arm and my leg. I had to go inside and get a big beach towel so he could move around and run a little bit. I had to keep catching him because he wanted to go off the towel and I don’t want him getting bit by a bug or the sutures infected. He also ate a little bit more greens and 2 large mealworms. I think I’m gonna have to start cutting him back to his normal maybe three large bugs a week since he seems to be eating pretty well. Once I brought him back in, he proceeded to walk around inside a lot. This morning, when I came downstairs and his timer/lights turned on a few minutes before he had moved himself and was holding his head up and basking. Gave him his Ketofen pain injection this morning and he was quite active definitely needed hubby to hold him. When I put him back in the tank, he moved himself and motored around. I just wish I could start to see some of that pronounced swelling go down, but he is moving that leg. I would say pretty darn good for that. Kind of big surgery.

Hello,

Wow, that is excellent to hear! He is definitely improving pretty quickly now, which is surprising it's so
fast. I guess he is feeling better if he is wanting to run up & down so much.
He is eating well which is great to hear bless him. I would think that the swelling should start to recede
pretty soon if he's moving around so much more now.

Keep us posted on his progress!

Hello,

Wow, he definitely looks really alert there. I'm so happy he came through surgery so well. It seems like he is recovering quite nicely right now.
Keep us posted on him.

Aw, I'm so happy for you and him that the surgery helped him. It's a scary thought because, like you said, there's not a whole lot of info on the best way to care for these guys and what we do know really is a crapshoot as to whether it's actually good for them or not.

And I'm looking into the insurance. I hadn't yet found an affordable one for reptiles, so I've been really worried about paying for everything.

He is recovering nicely, moving the leg, walking, eating and 💩 normally. Praying on the pathology results.

Update:

Not good news. Mr. Rex’s recovery was shortlived. 😭 The pathology came back as soft tissue sarcoma. It was so aggressive. He started walking less and less, and his mentation became quieter. We had some issues with poop which were temporarily resolved with lactulose (this was very helpful because it just eases pooping) We had him back at the exotic vet on Monday. She did a quick ultrasound and upon palpation, she could feel a new lesion under his knee. She could feel ascites in the abdomen. She called me yesterday with the results of the ultrasound and it showed a lot of abdominal ascites and spinal lesions. The sarcoma was so aggressive. This was all in eight weeks after surgery. Before surgery, they did x-rays and bones looked clean. My boy has been a true fighter and a good friend to my family. He was rehomed to us at 17 months and he is only 7.5 years old but we cannot leave him in pain like this. He did everything he was supposed to do and so did I. I will be bringing him to the vet today so he can cross the rainbow bridge and be at peace and free from pain. We are just devastated but have to do the right thing for him.

Hello,

Oh no, I am so sorry to hear that Mr. Rex has had more trouble with sarcoma. What awful luck, he has
been a trooper through everything & I had thought he had gotten through everything.
I am truly sorry he has had to go through all of this & that he is still young. He knew how much you &
your family loved him. He will be forever with you.
My sincere condolences to you.

Thank you always for your help. We did everything we could. Sarcoma was just so aggressive. Came back everywhere like a demon. We gave him the one thing left that we could do which was give him peace and no more pain.

Hello,

It is definitely nothing you did, just horrible luck for everyone involved. Since he was in so much pain,
that was the best decision for him. So very sorry you lost him.

No one more than me. He was a real personality. When I am ready I will find another beardie from a rescue that needs a good home. It won't be Mr. Rex but at least I can provide a good home and hope for another sweet beardie.

Hello,

No matter how long you wait no other dragon will ever
replace Mr. Rex, absolutely. It is impossible to replace
them, but another dragon will need a home one day,
whenever you are ready.

Hey! I'm planning on ordering a 4x2x2 for my next beardie but I'm worried about lighting. I have a UVA and a UVB but they are small (the UVA just being a bulb and the UVB being 12 ish inches?) My house is drafty so I need a strong light that puts off quite a good amount of heat, any suggestions?
cookie event at my library today, quite fun! Made some bracelets for my comrades too, to give them at church in the morning. Got a busy day tomorrow even though I’m off work… i go back on tuesday so atleast I’ll have 2 days off to rewind….then back to hell lol
The head tilt tho! Aaaahhh
