Xena is living in a partitioned section of Zeppy's old 70 gallon terrarium. It has a combination hood which takes up to 4 75 watt bulbs. I'm trying to figure out how to get a good basking temp at a lower height because she is little and Zeppy's big basking branch would be too high for her. Do any surfaces absorb heat well?
hmm the only way would be to lower a basking bulb towards the dragon. I have an exo terra dome basking lamp and it has a cool bracket/arm that allows you to lower the light inside the tank.
You can try a piece of slate, it absorbs heat pretty well but really, you need something she can climb. I've had little babies climb high on driftwood, they can do it fine as long as they aren't sick/weak.
I just realized (I'm using 60 watt bulbs), that I can get a 75 watt heat bulb at petsmart. The regular stores around here don't carry the 75ers. I think that will do the trick.
