I'm so excited cause Draco is getting his 40 gallon breeder tank tomorrow. He's in a 20 gallon long tank right now and a 75 watt Zoo Med Basking Spot Lamp keeps his temp in the 95f to 102f range. I know it can vary with each enclosure but do you think the 75 watt will be ok till the end of the month? Or should I up it to 100 watts? Draco's 1.5 years old. Echo my gecko will be getting his 20 gallon long tank as she is in a 10 gallon right now. Draco is going to think he's died and gone to heaven and so is Echo!!!
Great that he will be in a larger tank, bet that will make him happy.
It's hard for us to say if the 75 watt will be good in the 40 gallon, it depends on the room temp, height of the basking spot, etc. You'll have to see what the basking temp is by using either a temp gun or digital with probe. You might find that you need a lower wattage bulb on the cool side and can even use a standard household light bulb if needed.
Thanks. I have a digital themometer with probe already and I use a 40 watt regular light bulb on the cool side in his 20 gallon. I keep the apartment, and its small, at 72 degrees farenhiet throughout the winter. I'll just have to play around to get it right. Also I have an 18" reptisun now and will need to get it checked cause it's been 6 months but my question is will I have to up it to 24" for the bigger tank? I can do that when I get paid at the end of the month. I think the 18" will do till then, what do you think??
Thanks for your help.
Hi, yes, the 18" UVB will do until then as long as the bulb is right alongside the basking bulb so that your beardie can get the benefit of both bulbs at the same time.
