back from a long trip

So I'm finally back home :)
I've brought back a 2-to-3-year supply of basking lamps.
Nothing was taken away/ stolen from our luggage (I tried stuffing in any kinds of electronics, including any kind of hard-to-get items into hand luggage but "you can only fit in so much").

Taco is doing great. Ate his dubias yesterday :) (He had no insects for a few days.)
His reaction overall when we came in was quite typical: He's not a guy that runs towards the glass scratching like mad. He was rather staying in a semi-hidden spot, tilting his eyes, waiting. Ate his dubias, later when we ate dinner he watched us with some stress marks. He's just the "if in doubt..." kind of dragon ;)
(Stress marks gone today, nothing to worry. If something is strange, he rather turns them on ;))
Tomorrow I will replant his aloe (switch it out with the other one on the balcony); I rather don't do it today to not make too many changes at once.
It's now very warm/ hot here, significantly hotter than 2 weeks ago. Will check the temperature in his enclosure today and might make adjustments if necessary.

I'm glad to hear you made it home safely 🙂
Stocking up on supplies is smart. I wish everyone to such good care of their beardies 🙂

Hey, where had you gone ?
I was traveling (together with my husband) from Chile, where we live, to our families in Germany, where we are both from. It's quite far; flights are from [city where we live] -> Santiago de Chile -> Madrid -> Munich, then 2 hours on a train, then picked up by car for the last 50 km as there is no train (or bus) connection where my parents and in-laws live (on the countryside). Kind of exhausting; I'm more used to it as I have to travel a lot for my job, but my husband said, at least now, he wants to skip it next year :D
We were visiting family, but also had to do some bureaucracy (elderly parents, disabled brother), and I had to buy certain things I cannot get here at all or anymore, like basking lamps for my dragon, or certain hobby equipment (electronics) that is not available here or insanely expensive.

There was no other way, I could not buy them otherwise anymore. Not available here since about March last year... (And before: stocking up more than 2 was not possible; I was looking and looking and looking desperately... and could find maybe one (!) each few months, pet stores if they had them at all - also online - had at maximum one in stock.) And also nothing that is similar like normal household bulbs; and the poultry bulbs here all are red colored now.
I was already using the last basking lamp I had and they only last 2 - 3 months until they burn out. (I had bought in the meanwhile, just in case that one burns out before I could get some, a CHE and a LED bulb knowing that this is far from perfect, but I just had no way to buy basking bulbs here in Chile anymore.)

Oh wow, that was a lot of traveling and it sounds like you got a lot of things accomplished . Always good to visit family and if it's in the countryside I can imagine it's beautiful and [ hopefully ] peaceful.

Getting all the equipment for Taco was an extra bonus . :) It sounds like that was a good trip, I hope you rest up well so you can take care of Taco !

Already the amount of luggage tells that very well: We (husband and me) brought 2 large suitcases full of things to Germany (1 with gifts, 1 with our own stuff like clothes and other personal things) but back 5 suitcases, means 4 extra suitcases of things bought in Germany. Mostly stuff we ordered before.

And a big bunch of childhood memories. Both my husband and me grew up on the countryside, and many things look pretty much the same, still. Certain places that attracted me as a kid, like field hedges, riverside woodland... (to observe animals :)) are still what fascinates me. As much as I love deserts (and really liked it in Southern California, and also here but for here I would honestly wish a bit more plants and wildlife in the desert) and they can feel to me like "a place I understand", I'm also very much a "forest person" and a "garden person".

My husband and me grew up in villages just about 10 km apart and it's kind of "a small world". (For some time, we found out, we must have been at the same school but he two classes ahead; he had also done an internship in the same company at the same time where I did an apprenticeship; we had almost ended up in the same company for an apprenticeship (had not known each other at that time!); we then finally met at a school where adults can study towards an university entrance certificate after having finished an apprenticeship :D ).
I hope you rest up well so you can take care of Taco !
Thanks! Not feeling too much stressed out from the trip.
But holidays are over now and we're back to work today.
Taco seemed more relaxed today (instead of kind of irritated like yesterday) - let's see if he wants to come out of his enclosure tomorrow.

Hey! I'm planning on ordering a 4x2x2 for my next beardie but I'm worried about lighting. I have a UVA and a UVB but they are small (the UVA just being a bulb and the UVB being 12 ish inches?) My house is drafty so I need a strong light that puts off quite a good amount of heat, any suggestions?
