I adopted her about last year in November when she was just 7 inches. It's been over a year and she is still only 9 inches long. I have another beardie that is about a year and a half old and is about 3 times her size. I have checked temperatures and mist her regularly but she was just never a big eater. My other beardie, Bandit, is a male and is about 20 inches now so I was wondering what I could do with Zell for her to grow. She is generally really energetic but lately she has been more lethargic but since her temperatures are fine I assume she's just brumating.
When you adopted her, did the person or organization you received her from verify she's a central bearded dragon? It's possible she might be a Rankins or Lawson Bearded Dragon, a dwarf dragon that generally gets no larger than 12".
You say she might be brumating, what is her current behavior? Is she hanging out on the cool side of her tank? Not eating? Sleeping more? How many insects does she generally eat? How many per week? Does she get calcium dusting?
Yes I'm sure she's not a dwarf species. I have one of those half log hides in the basking spot to prop up another log to bask in and she usually just stays under there. I have been feeding her smaller superworms dusted but she usually eats just one or two before I end up having to feed them to my other beardie. I recently got a Dubia Colony and have been giving her at least two medium sized nymphs a week.
What type of UVB lighting are you using? It does sound like Zell hasn't grown much.
She is housed alone right?
Since she isn't eating much, do you give a liquid calcium for her to help? How long has she not been eating much?
If you have pictures of her, you can post them just so we can see her.
At this point, you should give as many feeders that you can to try & get her protein intake up. Will she eat any greens?
