Hi! I have had my beardie for about 5 days now, the first day I had him he ate about 15 crickets in one day. For about the next 2 days he wasn't eating at all, I would offer him crickets in a feeder/small cage so he could see them easily and he wouldnt eat them still. He has no problem eating his collard and mustard greens in fact he loves them. But he seems to be really picky with crickets, put 1 in his feeder and he ate it immediately, gave him 2 more and he ate those, then I put about 5 in the feeder and he refused. I get he is still adjusting to a new environment and may be stressed. But is there any tips you guys have for me about transporting the crickets I guess like 2 at a time for him?
I've found it easiest to offer crickets just a couple few at a time. It's easier for them to track that way and it's easier for you to track as well so you can remove them from the tank after meal time is over. I just offer in batches like that until they lose interest. With crickets and roaches I put a few in a cup with a little bit of calcium powder in it and shake them to give a nice even coat. Then offer them for meal time and repeat until they lose interest in eating or after 10 min or so (roughly). It also helps to offer different bugs now and then. Black soldier fly larvae are a very good option for young dragons as are small silk worms.
