Noticed this weird breathing thing one of our baby beardies is doing. It seems to happen when we are around and paying attention to him so I am thinking maybe it is something cause by stress from us??? We have only had him for about a week and he is a baby baby. Maybe about 5 inches long. Way too young for the breeder to be sending to the pet store. I've used this forum for some great information, but this is my first time posting.
Here is a video of what I'm talking about. He inflates his stomach and then inflates his mouth with it closed. Any help is appreciated.
It could be stress related but doesn't look like a health concern to me. Does he do this after eating? Sometimes I see them breathe like that after a meal and consider it to be similar to a burp. Sometimes they also puff out like that to help stretch the skin to aid with an oncoming shed. It doesn't look like something I'd be too worried about though.
Odd.. It looks a little bit like he's imitating a frog.
Dragons can be quite quirky. As Cooper mentioned, there's a chance he's loosening up for an up-coming shed though I've never seen it done in this manner
Thank you for the replies. It looks like he is about to start his first shed so I think you guys are correct about that.
I haven't noticed him doing the behavior the past couple days so I am not worried about it. I will keep on monitoring him and let you know if anything changes.
