My friend just got a beardie a week ago. The baby seems to have a lot of issues.when he is basking but he keeps throwing his head back and side to side. When you put him on the ground he almost flips himself over. If he is sitting on the floor he will just move his head "wildly" from side to side and back. Its just a very sad to see. Hard for me to watch when I am doing all this research into getting my own beardie.
any ideas on what is going on?
Someone said maybe if the mom was sick it gave a bone disease to it.
Maybe its nature..just one of the bad hatchlings..
From shipping him ? He came in on thursday ( last week).
Star-gazing and head-tilt have been reported as possible signs/symptoms of Adenovirus. I would make sure this sick baby is quarantined and kept away from other bearded dragons to prevent infecting other dragons, if it turned out to be viral.
Either way it sounds neurological to me, or if dragons can get an inner ear infection that could be possible. In humans with inner ear infections, symptoms can be as severe as physical imbalance/vertigo.
Where did you get your baby?
Have you contacted them to tell them the issue going on with this baby?
How old is the baby? Weight?....Length?
Do you know the diet he was fed before you got it?
What are you feeding him?....How many times a day?...Is he able to eat,....Catch feeders?
Are you giving supplemental Calcium?......Vitamins?
Has he been acting this way since arrival or has it develop over the past 4 days?....Any chance he was injured in shipping?
It sounds like either neurological as ShannyBeard suggested....or Metabolic.
In my opinion the poor little guy needs to see a vet as soon as possible and have blood work done, a comprehensive reptile panel

Its not my beardie.
My friend just asked me to post since she knew I was researching for mine. Sounds like he is already doing much better and is eating/drinking as normal. I think maybe the stress from the move got to him. He is basking; able to climb logs to get to a spot he likes. I would say it looks much better.
Glad he is doing better all of a sudden. I am at a loss about the symptoms you described. I'd be curious to know if it happens again - let us know what happens with this baby.
Your instinct is probably correct. When you decide to get your own bearded dragon, purchase it from someone else. :silent: I'm sure you have already had that thought...
