Baby Bearded Dragon Coughing/Gagging

Hopefully you can work something out with the breeder. It shouldn't be TOO much to have him treated. Don't let them do bloodwork or fecal test, almost all beardies carry some parasites and vets are quick to treat them for something that is harmless. What's his name by the way ?

It may have been wrapped in paper towels. I can’t recall. I have been talking with the breeder and so far he’s been great. I’ve sent him the videos and he was unclear about what was going on with him. So I’ve come here for some help to see if others think he may have an RI.

He did offer for me to ship him back and then he’ll send me another beardie. The problem is, I don’t really want another. I want this little guy. We’ve already established a bond. I love him. ❤️ I also don’t want a large vet bill either because I received an ill animal. So we’re still trying to figure it out. I do feel like he should see the vet asap.
I agree about the vet but please no enemas-

His name is Antares. I named him after a giant red star that’s also the brightest star in the constellation Scorpius.

Is it safe to have a dig box with repti sand in the enclosure with him? I keep reading so many contradictions about sand. I hand feed him his bugs right now so he’s not eating them freely in his enclosure so no worries about clumsiness. He seems to like to go to the bathroom in the sand. What are your thoughts?

Sand is fine but maybe with him having respiratory problems it's best to leave it out or to be sure it's not very dry or dusty enough that he could inhale particles. Edited typo

I’ve decided I’m keeping him no matter what the breeder says. Antares and I have a bond and should be together. I just feel this in my heart and I’m following it. I have a vet appointment for tomorrow at 3. Hopefully it all goes well.

Yeah, he's just a voiceless animal and I'm sure you care very much for him. :) He's very beautiful, too.
Be sure that your vet is really experienced with bearded dragons. An R.I should respond well to antibiotics. Is Antares still breathing like in the video ?

Thank you. He had 3 separate episodes yesterday. I’ve had a camera on him today while at work. I haven’t seen him have an episode yet but I’m not continuously watching. Do you think I will need to do injections for the antibiotics? I had to do that a couple of times with a BTS and neither one of us enjoyed it.

I took Antares to the vet yesterday. He does not have a RI. His white blood cell count is not high so he’s not showing signs of an infection. What He does have is a wound in the back of his throat along with excess mucus most likely because of the wound and swelling of the wound.

The vet gave him a cortisone shot for the swelling so he doesn’t keep aggravating the wound doing all the things he’s been doing. He also sent me home with a few days of oral cortisone to give him every other day. I didn’t want to do the injections if it wasn’t necessary.

Antares was a champ at the docs. He was so good and a bit wiggly. When we got home he did the throat thing, but it was very minor and short. He didn’t eat many Dubia but he had a big day. We cuddled in the evening for about 45 minutes and he fell asleep on me! This was our first real cuddle session. I loved it! 🥰

He ate well this morning and has basically been in the same spot since this morning. Which has been the norm for him. He generally gets moving around about 4:30-5. Then he’s all over the place until around 8-8:30 when he settles down again.

I’m so relieved he doesn’t have an infection and I hope he heals quickly. Thank you for all the help and communications. I truly appreciate you. 💚

That is good to hear any idea how he got the wound in the throat? You can get him some BSFL that are a small soft larvae that might be easier on his throat - order large www.symtonbsf.com - he would eat a lot of them since they are small - you can add them to his salads
